Help!!

Hey guys, I know all of the applications are all submitted and now we just have to wait until March 10, but I can’t help wonder to myself that all of the schools I am applying to (Exeter, Andover, Choate, Deerfield, Middlesex, Milton, Groton, St. Pauls) are impossible to get into unless you have connections or are an athlete. Is any of it true? Do you really have a chance to get in?

No.

I know it’s difficult, but your part is done. Don’t dwell on it. What will be will be. Find something to occupy your time until M10, because stressing will not change the outcome.

Same, I have felt the same way. I know that people with connection or athletes have a slight advantage in the application process, but I just like to think that if the AO’s believe that will fit in well at the school, they will choose me. Good luck!

The biggest issue is that applicants often don’t seem to understand that it is more to do with too many applicants to a small number of schools with limited spaces. Yes being a minority helps, yes being a legacy really helps, yes being a recruited athlete really helps, yes being full pay can help but I would argue that geographic diversity is a bigger component than many realize. We were told being a male from new england is the most difficult pool of all. Lastly, just like applying to colleges do you have reaches, matches and safeties?

Like everybody above me said, there’s nothing you can do at this point. You’re going to be perfectly fine. Just take some deep breaths and clear your head of M10. Just 32 days. Prepare yourself for both disappointment and success. Best of luck!

@GrotonKid123 with every fork in the road (whether it seems like a success or failure at the time) comes choices and challenges. Getting in is fantastic-not getting in has its own set of benefits. No school is a guarantee of anything-in fact attending one if these schools may make your goals harder to achieve in the short term. Take everything as a growth opportunity. Good luck.

@Center what states do you mean fall into the category of underrepresented.? I am from Florida, so does that help at all? @willmo @AllSmiles2 thank you !

@GrotonKid123 I dont think Florida is under-represented in New England boarding schools but it may vary by school. In my experience-my observations–the North East is the biggest %, then the east coast and the west coast (CA). Being from the deep south, the SW, Mid-west and west excluding California are the biggest advantages geographically. I dont know where in Florida but I imagine being from a more rural/socio-economic disadvantaged part of florida may be quite interesting as opposed to Palm Beach or whatever. I dont really know Florida. There are no hard rules of course. If you are an under represented minority then geography doesn’t matter.

@GrotonKid123 Based on what I’ve learned as a fellow Floridian, the geographical location somewhat matters. I know that many of the Admissions Receptions and Boarding School Fairs in Florida had been held in the Palm Beach and Miami area, therefore they have many applicants from that area every year, which is why they go down there to host many of them. When I had my interview with an alumnus in a central part of Florida, my mom had asked the interviewer about the number of students that they interviewed previously, and they said that they interviewed one person in the last admission cycle, therefore though that number doesn’t encompass the people who visited the school itself or opted for a Skype interview, it would seem quite apparent that there are relatively few applicants from central Florida those schools.

Unlikely. Alaska would be an example of an under-represented state. Regardless, go back to my earlier post #1.

At this point, it is what it is. Trying to grasp at straws after the fact is not going to help.

Florida is better than New England for the most part for New England BSs. Life is what you make of opportunities that come your way. If you don’t get an opportunity to attend BS on M10, look around you and make use of all the opportunities you DO have.

Sorry this is late but thank you all for the advice!!!

Good luck to everyone

All you can do at this point is hope! Good luck!
