Help

Hi,

I need help figuring out where to go to college. I am a senior and recently got all of my notifications from schools that I will list. I plan on majoring in biochemistry or a related field. I got rejected from my first choice Brandeis which was my dream schools. The rest of my list is not that great because I never really considered not getting in to Brandeis. " I know how terrible that is and looking back I see how much of a horrible teenager I am". Please give me advice on what to do.

UGA:
This is a well rated public school. I did not get any scholarship yet but I am hoping. I think I will ask them to match UConn’s offer for scholarship. My concern with this school is there party reputation. They were ranked no2 party by niche. I don’t want that to effect the reputation of my degree.

UConn:

I got a 15000 scholarship to this school. It is a nice school. I just don’t know what to do. I am considering asking for admission to the honors program because I got into unh’s.

Virginia Tech:

I got no scholarship. Maybe I could ask for them to match UConn like I previously said with UGA.

UMass Amherst:

I got a 12000 Chancellor’s scholarship. I am concerned about it’s party school reputation. I might ask for hobbies program admission like I would with UConn.

Rutgers:

I did not get any money but I was not impressed when I visited the school.

UNH

This is my state school. I am not into it but I did get 8000 scholorship and honors program admission.

What should I do? Should I beg for money at UGA, vt, or Rutgers? Should I ask for honors admission at UConn or UMass? or should I just accept an offer?

Please please please please help me!!!

It’s not about how much in scholarships each school gave you. It’s about how much it will cost you to attend after non-loan financial aid. So run the numbers. That’ll give you a clearer picture.

I am not concerned about any party school rep with any of these schools. They are all ‘good schools’, and UMass’s party school rep hasn’t been a reality since the 1970s. Yes, there are parties, but it’s also a top 80 ranked uni.

You can ask about honors admission at UConn and UMass. If they can’t let you in right now, there’s a process you can follow once you get there. With UMass at least, it’s unlikely that they’ll admit you into honors right now if you aren’t already in honors there right now, but you certainly can ask; but it is possible to get into honors after you go to school there and do certain things.

You can ask the other schools about improving your financial aid offer, but what I’d suggest is that you do this with only your top school, and know that it may not work.

If you don’t like Rutgers and they didn’t offer you money, cross them off your list.

Yes. Massachusetts hasn’t been a party school in decades. And it’s really a hot state flagship right now. Depending on major it can be a elite. In sciences it’s really good. Best food in the country for students. Commonwealth honors college is a tough ticket. If they are willing to negotiate. But nothing ventured nothing gained. I don’t know if there is anything like momentum with certain schools. But I feel UMA has that right now and it’s a good thing for you.

UGA is fantastic too. Party school? Schools don’t party. People do. Make your own choices. It has a very high value reputation. Great sports and social opportunities. And a really a strong admit for you. It’s a reach for a lot of students. Especially oos.

VT is solid as well. But for the cost and your major, I would prefer UMA and UGA.

UConn is really strong too. But it’s location is less appealing to me personally. It’s an individual choice.

I don’t know enough about Rutgers to comment really. I’ve always thought of it as a really fine state flagship school.

Thank you,

Right now I am deciding between UGA and UConn mostly. I am waiting to hear for a scholarship from UGA. Please let me know what you think of the school.
