Okay, so i am a high school junior come september. I am really interested in UPENN’s DMD program. I am decent at animation and putting together a portfolio isn’t the problem. The problem is that i go to private school, a shool that doesn’t offer any AP’s nor class ranking. I have decent ec’s, i took SAT as a sophmore and got a 1880 ( i was so nervous, this time im looking at 2100), either 3.8 or 3.9 gpa. I am a URM and also i have been in contact with Brian Fuller(soccer coach) for possible recruitment and i did get positive feedback. But i think im being cheated not getting any APs. WHAT SHOULD I DO???..does anyone think i have or shot or have any suggestions as to what i can do to boost my chances of getting in?!?..PLZZZZ HELPP!!..thank

it all sounds decent... why not try for some classes at the local college?

wait so i lie in brooklyn should i maybe go to like brooklyn college or nyu or something and take classes there?

Does taking college courses in your local college actually help u? I have taken two so far, A in english cimpsotiion (EG 101) and practically on my way to a guaranteed A in micro economics. If it is beneficial to put it in my college app, where do i put that kind of information?

yeah put it in. They ask for courses you've taken I believe, and you can list that they are college level. If not, there is always an "extra notes" section. You live in brooklyn? I think some cuny schools offer summer programs, you could try to get into Columbia's Science Honors Program on the weekends, you could always petitition your school to allow you to take college classes for credit, and you can study for the APs on your own. There are a lot of options in new york

there is somehitng called College Now and it allows nyc kids to take college classes in certain cuny colleges.

also if i get an A in those classes, would there be any chance that i can get college credit from UPenn? These are common classses and i know for sure that there is one just like it in Upenn.

like what? Sometimes Penn doesn't give credit for classes but allows you to take placement tests that will give you credit. I did a version of college now once in CCNY that was very math-centric. I'm not sure how heavily it weighed upon my app but it couldn't have hurt it. But really look into the possibility of taking a college course during the school year for school credit, as it will look a lot more credible.

I took my first college now course during the spring term of 2006. And now i am taking micro economics during the summer. So i dont see where the problem of credibility comes in?

ah lol. my thing was a summer class for vague things like adv. euclidean geometry and precalc. No college kids, just a bunch of high school ppl. I got credit of course, but I didn't even think about whether or not they would be applicable

i am sorry if i was not clear, but the program that i was in was for high school kids (juniors and seniors) who take classes in a college environment. In other words, high school kids take classes in the college.

try to attend a summer at penn. for example, the summer institute in management and technology or penn engineering summer programs for high school students. they are pretty good. last year in one of my engg labs we had a high school student who volunteered to sit in in one of the labs and participate. if i am not wrong you can contact the engg academic programs office and make some arrangements

Those summer programs are useless. Don't waste your money. Especially the M+T one.

To the OP, just continue taking the toughest classes your school offers. Make sure you take a physics class as well (doesn't have to be AP, just some form of physics). DMD is in the engineering school which implies that you'll be getting an engineering education. The admissions officers need to know that you at least know what you're getting yourself into. Taking high school versions of the basic engineering courses (chem, physics, math, etc) is a good way to demonstrate this.

If you're interested in playing for the soccer team and actually play at that level (not someone who's applying hoping soccer will help you get in while not actually being a D1 caliber player), odds are the night classes won't be possible. Admissions officers know this, so don't worry.

O0ok ok...w3ll ok I have lo0ked into taking the ap test but like u said chem and physics and math is a must...I can deal with math but chem and physics needs lab time...which I don't have so now what..?....ooo and would you guys say its better to have lots of ec's with no emphasis or a couple maybe 4 or 5 that you have been doin for years maybe 10 yrs or so
