help

during my soph year, i dropped 2 honors courses (alg 2 & chem) and took a lower level (advanced) for both. in one of the honors courses i got a D and on the other a C, but after dropping both the courses, i managed to get A averages for both lower level classes. will this hurt me in the future, when applying to colleges?

No. You need to take "challenging" courses that you CAN HANDLE. i mean it's best to take the most challenging courses possible. But you need to know youself, know if you can handle it. I think colleges'd rather see you getting an A in "regular" classes instead of failing AP/Honors classes. but i strongly still recommend you to strive for hard classes though

thank you . would i have to explain to colleges the reason why i had to drop? and i still dont know.. will this hurt me in the long run?

It might if you want to go to the most academically competitive schools, but only then. With most really good colleges a few low grades and a schedule not full of honors/AP courses is both common and accepted. And don't bother explaining why you did it...it's evident in the grades themselves and could be seen as puerile or insecure.
