I'm averaging about 650 on the CR (sadly), It's the only thing that is bringing my scores down. I do awesome on the SC, and short passages, but when it comes to the long passages, i just get killed.... I'm so frustrated and don't know want to do. And it turns that most of the questions that I'm missing is on the medium level. I've tried everything, reading the passages first, reading the questions first, skipping the passages, skimming, answer as i read along. NOTHING WORKS!!!!!! And it's always something stupid or just chosing the wrong answer out of the two left. Any advice would be helpful......i know that english being my second language can cause me some difficulty, but i always thought as long as i worked hard and practice, it won't be a problem. I'm really really desperate...any input would helpful at this point!!!!thx so much..:(

I am not shouting at you, but emphasizing the fact that reading English literature and magazines can help you understand the passages in the CR section of the SAT.

Read from now on until you take the SAT.
Start by reading Yahoo New's Online articles, and then ask yourself why the author wrote the passage.

Uh. 650 is not bad score. Average is 500 so you're 150 points higher than average. Think that way and your score should go up if you keep that up with reading.

i suscribed to time magazine plus i read about 2 hours every morning from www.nytimes.com and other news sites. It helps if you read up on stuff that interests you, your mind will start to notice small nuances and will comprehend passages faster. Think of it as a brain workout.

shadow, can you suggest things to read .. other else then "read" "read" "read" .. its completely unhelpful. maybe some specific titles? "The Norton Reader" is a great book .. with questions that help you to assess your critical reading abilities. Strong Recommendation.

Soprolahh, you are correct.
Sorry everyone.
Try reading U.S. New and World Report.
Also try to read an online article once in a while, since you can easily find the
definition of a new vocabulary word with an online dictionary.

Thanks to the OP for making this thread. I was going to make one of the like myself.
And thanks to everyone who responded with helpful tips. I'm going to start acting like a reading maniac from now on.
