yeah i was wondering in freshman year i took college prep classes and got straight a's on them, but in 10 grade i took 5 Honor classes, and 2 Pre-Aps. do u think me taking college prep classes in 9th grade can hurt my chances at a ivy league college? please and thanks

No, things you do in freshman year do not ruin your chances.

"do u think me taking college prep classes in 9th grade can hurt my chances at a ivy league college? please and thanks"

I love the wording - "is taking college prep classes going to hurt my chances of getting into college?"

In all seriousness, I don't think so. I know Stanford doesn't care what you do, anyway. The Ivies are probably the same way.

I don't think Senator Noodles understands what "college prep" classes are so you can ignore him.

However, it is true that freshman year doesn't really count for much. Getting straight As and Bs in tough classes in grades 10-12 is essential.

Hmmm. I guess I'm not real clear on what you mean by "college prep" classes, either. Nobody ever explained it to me, but it seemed self-explanatory; I figured they were academic classes--like, math, science, social studies, English and foreign language, rather than vocational, health, PE, art, or TA/study hall.

So, what do you mean?

they are college prepatory classes, they prepare you for college but their a level under honors

College Prep are known as STANDARD classes.

Ahhh... then I guess that would mean that those less-desirable classes at your high schools are the majority of the academic classes at mine. (We have a total of 11 honors/AP classes offered, so... well, you see how it is.)

Hmmm. I'm glad that college admissions officers judge the applicants' transcripts based on what's offered at their high schools, because otherwise I would have no chance against people coming from schools where having taken non-honors classes is a source of worry. :p
