so our college arranged free practice LSATs through Kaplan and I took it just to see where I stood because I'm really thinking about law school. I scored a 155, it was my first time ever taken the test, i did nothing to prepare for it and i wasnt familiar with the format and im a freshman. despite all that i know my score is way sucky.... do you think i can have a chance to get top scores...obviously im not shooting for 180 haha...what do you guys think? how much can a person really improve their score?

Well, good job being on top of things. Since you're a freshman, know that a college courseload in general--the heavy reading, the (hopeful) emphasis on critical thinking, etc.--will really help you out. It's just a matter of time and adjustment. You also know very early on that you might want to take/audit some courses that could be helpful, such as introductory logic. Beyond that, you can do regular old studying, and hey...the more time and motivation, the better, so good job again!

As for how much a score can change/go up, I don't think it can be said. How did you feel about the test? Do you feel like you really did a great job and you're surprised about your score, or do you feel like you were having a tough morning and you could have done better? The 160s are very easily (relatively speaking) within your reach, and they will put you in pretty good shape (not "HYS," as people like to say, but good shape). I originally wondered if I could bring my score up 7-10 points and was told it was very doable. Now...I DIDN'T do that, ultimately, buuut you're getting a much earlier start than I, so that should work in your favor!

Don't worry too much about this right now. Take it to heart, do what you can, know what you need to do, but enjoy college a little before you start stressing out about what to do after it!

Good luck :-)
