help!

I need some help on what to do to get me into Brown. I’m a sophmore and looking at these forums it likes I’m behind. What should I for community sertvice? how do I win awards? what should my gpa be? I need a lot of advice. please help.

Oh dear. First off, you don't need to do anything in particular. You just do what you do as well as you feel like doing it, and you'll probably end up in the right place, be it Brown or somewhere else.

That being said, for Brown-calibre schools, your GPA should be as high as you can make it without taking wussy classes. Challenge yourself.

You win awards by being outstanding at something. I have no idea what you are good at, so I can't give you specs. It is said that awards don't help a lot unless you're like an Intel finalist or something. I don't know. I didn't even mention any of mine to Brown because I thought they were trivial and it didn't matter.

Do something for community service that you're passionate about. Volunteer at a hospital if you're interested in medicine, etc.

Most of all, just be passionate about what you do, and don't college whore.

RaboKarabekian summed it up :)

What is "college [whoring]"?

It's dedicating your ECs, classes, life, to getting into college rather than doing what you want to do and what you're interested in. It's like joining the mathletes even though you'd rather join the D&D club, because you think MIT will like it.

Hey, whatever keeps kids out of D&D clubs...;)
