Although I am only in freshman year at high school, I already really want to attend Brown because of its quality education and great writing program. Yet, I am really confused about admissions…some websites say that you need to be the granddaughter of a dean or have someone in your family donate a library or something…is getting in really that hard? I know that it helps to be a prodigy with music or a super-athlete but unforchanetly I haven’t taken up sports or instruments and I think that even if I start immedietly I won’t stand out that much in either talent. So far, in school I am maintaining a 96+ average and trying to involve myself in clubs that I can achieve high-positions in. I am also looking for a part-time job and probably will start piano lessons soon. What else can I do? Am I doing enough? PLEASE HELP! ANY ADVICE WILL BE HIGHLY APPRECIATED!!

PS: Right now, I am attending a private college-prep school. I have the oppertunity to transfer to a nationally acclaimed humanities school that houses the top-students in New York City. The only problem is, in this school I will not be in the top 5% of my class like I am now, and may not be able to take all the APs like I am planning to do in this school. Should I transfer??

before switching schools you should find out how many people get into brown on average from both schools each year. talk to successful matriculants. since admissions depend so much on context, these people can give you better advice than anyone

Your grades seem strong enough to get into Brown, but you are only a freshman. Much can and will change.
Don't worry about the particular college when you switch schools. If the other school has a better college repuation that could be good. The thing is that you have 3 more years in high school be where you enjoy. If the humanties school will make you happier go there and do what you love.

All I can recomend is that you type all your essays and use spell check as often as possible.

Getting into Brown isn't nearly as difficult as you make it seem. First, you're only a freshman. Your ideas about where you want to go and what you're looking for in a school with undoubtedly change. Second, go to the high school where you'll have the best academic/social experience. Going to a particular school won't necessarily help you get into Brown or anywhere else. You will be evaluated in context with your school, so being in the top 5% might not matter as much if you go to an "inferior" school. Above all, just do high school as you want, and you'll probably end up at whatever school is good for you.
