ok, so for my college essay they said to write about an experience that changed you. so i decided to write about my faith and a pilgrimage I recently completed. and basically my essay was all about my faith in God and how much I love my religion now. i wont say wat my faith is but my ? is ppl are telling me to change my essay b.c. its about religon and the ppl reading it might be racist. what would u do???? i spent sooooooo much time on it and evryone that reviewed it said it was GREAT essay but its just the topic. would u change it?

Unless your religion has something to do with disliking people based on their race (and I am not aware of any religions like that Some used to consider Mormons to be racists because I think black people couldn't be ministers, but the Mormons have changed that policy), I don't see how writing about your religion could cause colleges to think you're racist. If you're applying to very selective colleges, being a member of a faith that is underrepresented at the college could be a plus for you.

And if your religion is important to you, and a college would reject you based on your faith, you wouldn't be happy at that college anyway.

I wonder if you can write the essay without writing down which religion is yours...

Besides, if the people reading it are racist, why would you want to go to their school?

I'd either:

a) omit the title of your beloved religion
b) submit it anyway

is it wise to write about your religon?

The essay should be personal, detailed, honest and revealing. If writing about your religion allows you to write in this manner, then religion could be a good topic for you.

When I say personal, though, I mean, ideally, as a target, something so personal that it can be written only by you. So, take, for example, the statement "I know that God has a plan for my life". This statement may be true, but it is a very common way of putting things. Thousands, millions of religious people could and do make this statement. Therefore, the statement is unlikely to distinguish you from other applicants. The statement also does not show any unusual insight or reflection about religion.

Also, imo it is not advisable to argue about religion, or claim that one religion is better than another. College essays imo should be personal, not political, not outspokenly favoring one religious or political viewpoint over another.

well said ADad.

Adad can u please read my essay and see if its good and it fits ur definition?
