Help!!

hi, im a senior in va and im going insane just waiting for april 1st to come. i was hoping that someone could "chance me." so here are my stats:

GPA: 3.89 (not sure if its weighted or not. but prolly weighted i guess)
SAT: 630: math 610: reading 580:writing (note: i know that my sats scores arent very impressive at all. i took the act a few weeks ago and idk my scores yet. but i def think i did much better . hopefully somewhere around 28-30)
sat2s: world history: 660 biology&math: idk yet

im a member of:

nhs
shs
mhs
best buddies
ecology club
octagon
science olympiad ( placed 7th last year in states)
junior optamist club ( im the director in NoVa)
colorguard ( i quit after freshman yr tho)

also, i tutor students in math, spanish and other subjects for honor societies.

in total, by the time i graduate from hs, i would have taken 8 AP classes. i got a 5 on bio and 4 on world history.

background:
i live in va
i was born in the us but im from nepal. when i was 5 my family moved to nepal and we lived there for 7 years. so even though, technically, english is my 1st language its not my stongest.
i skipped a grade. so im a year ahead of my peers.

and i cant think of anything else to mention.

any help/advise/response would be greatly appreciated.

ps. i got my act score. 30! :D

LD--great job with your ACT! That should help you immensely! I think you have a good chance, but that kind of hinges on your GPA being unweighted. What kind of grading scale does your school go by? Do you know your rank? You are clearly challenging yourself with the # of AP's you are taking, and I think your background of living in Nepal for 7 yrs. is really cool (hook).

What's your class rank? I your GPA is weighted, then it's a bit low. SAT is too low also. Where are you in Va? It could help if you are from a remote place.

northern virginia.

and my gpa is weighted although its only up to junior year. i think if the first semester grades from this yr were included, it would def be aroind 3.9 something. and i have no idea what my class rank is. top 10 %, i would guess.
as for my school's grading scale, i think its the same as many other schools. A=4 B+= 3.5 ...etc. for ap classes, an extra .5 is added.

thanks for replying! i seriously thought no would reply....

HA.

LD? ..good one!

LD-UVA will look at whichever score is better when/if you submit both your SAT and ACT scores. If you are indeed in the top 10% of your class, that is good for in-state students. I don't quite understand the grading system at your school. Are you sure that your GPA is weighted? Give me an idea of how well you've done in your AP classes>>A's? or A and B's??

well, i live in fairfax county, which has one of the most toughest grading system (or so ive been told). for ap we do get an extra .5, but for honors, we don't (same as regular classes). and im sure that my gpa is weighted, but its only up until the end of junior year.

in my ap classes, ive gotten A's, B+s, and a B. in one of my honors class, i got a B+, which im guessing lowered my gpa considerably.

but, the gpa that uva and other colleges look at includes the first semester of senior year, right?

I think you have a good chance. Send the Act not the SAT. GPA is still a bit low. The Nepal angle might play in your favor too.

I think you've got a fairly decent chance too. Your GPA is a little low, but that is offset by your very good class rank. That rank proves that you are indeed challenging yourself in a difficult academic setting. Your SAT is low, but UVA will judge you on your ACT. Aren't you glad you took the ACT!! ?? Best of luck.

What school do u go to?? cuz in Fairfax don't they have Thomas Jefferson??

Yes, TJ is in Fairfax county VA

I dont go to TJ but, yes, TJ is in Fairfax County.
I go to Oakton High School, which was ranked #88 on U.S. News & World Report’s list of the top 100 high schools in the United States.
