help

okay, I just got back my psat scores and I did horrible. I have no idea what to do. My grades are perfect, I go to a very competitive school. I know i need to study, but I do not know how. I want to take the SATs next year and I really do not know how to study. I got the college board SAT book but every time i open that book, I get distracted and my mind starts to wonder. Does anybody know what is a good sat course, I took power score but that did not help me. Any suggestions or good books/courses.
Thank You

first of all, stop stressing, breathe....
If you're a sophomore or younger, you getta take the PSAT again. If you're a junior, don't sweat, you have time. School math, reading, and english is very different from SAT math, reading, and grammar
I only used the CB book for its realisitic practice tests (because yes, it is very very very very boring:)). For strategies, do Princeton Review, and Barron's preparing for the SAT. Princeton will give you great strategies, and Barron's teaches you the raw material. I've also heard that RocketReview works, but i've never tried it.

Best of luck

thank you so much
and I am a sophomore

no problem. DO PREPRARE for the PSAT, even tho' it's the practice. using the books I listed above, I increased my score 40 pts.

I've posted this same thing many times in other places, but I'll post it here too.

RocketReview was helpful to me for the main purpose of the 323 vocabulary word list it has, and also I learned one important thing from it. In the English section, everytime I saw a phrase, I needed to put ( ), and this has helped me increase my English score.

Like D-Yu said, CB book is very helpful because of the eight practice tests. I've also read the entire book, and I've found bits and pieces of it helpful as well. You don't technically have to read the whole book if you don't want to. Just read what you need to improve at.

And PR's Cracking the SAT 2008 is quite useful. I began this book only a few days ago, and it is useful, highly because of the strategies it provides.

nice location, patel ;)

thank you so much
by the way do you guys know of any good SAT courses?
Yesterday, I was so depressed that I decided not to take the SAT and take the ACT instead but changed my mind today.

A lot of my friends think that the ACT test is easier (well not easier but the quetions are not confusing) what do you guys think, which is better SAT or ACT?

THank You

i have never taken a formal SAT course (i.e. tutor), but i do recommend the SAT online course. It not only gives you 6 additional tests, but also all the explanations for the book tests.

ACT - has a science section. if you're a good at science, go for it. also, there's no guessing penalty on the ACT

try both the SAT and ACT - that's my advice. see which you're better at or which one you plain just like better.
