hi, i am a international student from india and aspire to do my undergrad in us.but the SAT I and II score that i took in october 2007.the scores are as follows

SAT I

CR : 540/570
Math : 530/560
Writing : 530/570
MC : 52
Essay : 8/12

and SAT II

Chem : 550
Phy : 510
Math Level 1 : 420

can i apply to us universities with this scores.and can anyone recommend any good college according to these scores.

When will you enter university? I suggest SAT retaking this year. Get around 1800-1900 for SAT I and 600-750 for SAT IIs. Currently, with those scores you'll probably only manage to enter 3rd tier universities/community colleges.

As an international student, I'd also recommend you take a good look on your local universities. Depending on your financial situation, I think it is better to study hard in a local univ and save up money to go to a good grad school overseas. It is better than spending it on some 3rd or bottom tier US university that is only as good or even worse than the local ones. If you can't get into a US university that is significantly better than the local ones in terms of quality, prestige, etc. then there's little incentive to go overseas.

Agree with Tomo. You have a 1700 (going by the second column of scores), which can get you into a decent school, such as UC Santa Cruz, University of Oregon, or Howard University, yet that's all the aforementioned schools are: decent. Unless you're rolling in the dough, paying many tens of thousands of dollars to attend a decent undergraduate school probably isn't the best course of action.

thanks for ur reply guys,i am actually thinking of applying this time,ie this semster.i also have TOEFL score of 99/110.but it seems i might have to give SAT again.besides by any chance, can i get admission into good univ like amherest or univ of NY,NJ,etc.

Hi, I am internaltional student too. Now I am junior High school doing IB program.
I have taken SAT this january and scores came :

740 math
610 CR
630 writing

I must admit they are pretty bad if I want to go to top schools. But I am not used to SAT-type of tests. I want to improve the scores in june or in fall of 2008 (hope to reach about 2200).

I am now planning to visit schools in US (spring break). And I want to see Columbia University, some other Ivy Leagues and some schools like U of Rochester in NY or Union University and some LAC.

Do you think I might look stupid when I'll mention my SAT scores?

Which schools should I visit in NY and MA according to my scores as a junior?

@greenhills: what country are you applying from? certainly, the top schools aren't expecting international applicants to know perfect english. although applying for financial aid might be a bad idea.

if you're looking based on sat scores, visit collegeboard.com and use their matchmaker.

I'm sorry undergrad_2007, universities would be able to look past lower reading and writing scores for internationals, but being from India, they'd expect higher Math and Science scores than the ones you have.

even though universities say they will consider international students with low CR scores, its not true because there are so many internationals that get above 700 in the CR section
