Are your chances of acceptance lowered if you do not play a sport. Does participating in summer programs for your desired major (e.g. Engineering) actually help you get accepted? Feel free to respond. Thanks

Your chances of acceptance are lower if you are not a recruited athlete. Playing a sport at the high school level also helps to round out your applications.

Successful participation in a summer program certainly can’t hurt.

i don’t think colleges look for athletes among all the applicants
usually colleges appear to favor people who play sports is because they demonstrate commitment by doing it for 4 years
if you’re not on a team now, i don’t think it would help you that much by joining now (i’m assuming you’re a junior?)
just stick to whatever ecs you have now

will i get yelled at if i say that a substantial percentage of the engineers probably didnt play a sport? lol. but no in all seriousness, you dont have to play a sport. and its questionable how much summer programs help (bc they generally arent hard to get into with the exception of a few)…but they can help you demonstrate that you’re actually interested in engineering. so that definitely helps. oh, and i did summer programs for years and loved them so i’m all in favor of summer programs. not trying to downplay them at all.
