i'm really stressed out right now! we just had a final and i had A through out the whole entire semester.... until the final. and the final dropped my grade 4%. My teacher for the subject is really hard (he picked out the toughest questions in the past APs as our final). i really feel like swearing right now. So, i'm going to end up w/ a B in the class.

Another one of my teacher is so bad that she just randomly gives out grades. They are both AP classes. I know, my teachers are :(

If I get a 5 in both of my APs (through self-studying), does anyone know if the colleges will consider the toughness/ineptitude of the teacher?

So even if I get a B in the class but a 5 on the AP, would colleges overlook the B since i got a 5?

My junior year grades are crap. Right now my weighted GPA is a 3.92 and 4.1 w/ only first semester grades. if i get 2 bs this semester: so after this semester my GPA would be 4.23 and 3.90.

Oh, yes, a 3.9 is a horrible GPA. There's no way you'll ever get into college now.

...
Either you're here looking for an ego boost, or you've been seriously misguided. I don't know who would've told you that a 3.9/4.2 was crap, but just take a step back and breathe. It's going to be okay. Also, colleges don't give a lot of weight to AP scores. There's used mainly for placement/advanced credit.

the thing is. freshmen & sophomore year i had amazing teachers that were absolutely phenomenal.

but junior yr aka the most important year i have sardonic teachers that enjoys giving out random grades and give extremely impossible tests so that they can give our random grades.

I was hoping that colleges would overlook the B, if you get a 5. but i guess i'm wrong. :(

Welcome to the real world...

Your dreams will not be torpedoed by a B...but placing blame for your "failure" on your teachers might.

Colleges look at your courses and your grades for admission. They look at your AP exam scores for placement once you have been admitted. A score of 5 on an AP exam is exactly equivalent to a score of 5 on an AP exam. Individual colleges set their own rules for what kind of course credit (and/or what amount of advanced placement into higher level courses) to award for AP exam scores. Some will give credit for just about any AP score of 3 or above, some give credit for only a score of 5, some give credit for some exams but not for others, some don't give any credit at all but will place you out of the first year course, etc. etc. To find out what your target colleges will do with your AP credits, read their websites.

Ahem, and now for a little Mom Talk here:

In order to learn anything, you have to try stuff that is just a bit harder than what you have done before - not so hard that you are freaked out by it, and give up entirely, but hard enough that you have to work at mastering it. This is what makes you learn, and grow. The whole point of doing all of these "AP level" courses is to CHALLENGE yourself academically. That means you are not always going to get an A. In fact, if all you have is a transcript full of As, it can mean that you haven't pushed yourself hard enough yet. So, you have finally run into a teacher who is pushing you. Good. I know it is hard right now for you to believe this, but your teacher is doing you a favor.

i have no problem with getting B's. I'm fine with getting B's as long as I learn stuff in the class & I know that I've tried my hardest.

But I hate it when #1) the teacher doesn't teach and all students have to rely on self-studying & basically class time is a waste #2) teachers testing us on stuff that we've never learned or on incredibly hard stuff that no one gets that isn't even going to be on the AP anyways.

im just mad becuase its not fair that our final is based on a bunch of AP questions when you only need a 60% to get a 5, but a 60% in the final would totally fail you.

i know everyone thinks that i'm casting the blame on the teacher when its my own fault. But seriously I studied HARD for this FINAL. but how can anyone get a 90% on an AP exam?
