Help!

By perusing through this site for the past 2 weeks, I have come to realize the reality of gaining acceptance to a top school. I'm Canadian with a 93% GPA; however, in Freshman year I received a couple of 84% in Math and French. Would my chances be less that 0.1% for schools such as HYPSM, UPenn because of this? I have no one else to really talk to about these things, so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance! :)

No way. You have a perfectly fine shot. Freshman year doesn't really count as much as the other years do :)

Thanks =)..Any more thoughts?

Please!!!!

Don't worry, your doing fine!

Bump.......:)

bumpppppppppppppppppppppppppp

Don't take this website as gospel when it comes to what "real" kids are like who get into these schools. Have a realistic idea, but don't let this place scare you away.

Thank you for that. :)

Freshman year grades would factor into your cumulative GPA, but overall I don't think it's that big a deal. Colleges enjoy seeing upward trends when it comes to grades. Plus you could try applying to Stanford and Princeton, two excellent schools that don't really look at your freshman grades.

I will do just that =).. In Ontario, 80-100 = A...so would an 84 count as a 4.00?

On your transcript, does your school report letter grades, or percent grades? If they report percentages, I think colleges tend to look at those, rather than convert to a 4.0 scale (and if they do convert, each college may have its own conversion scale)

Either way, grade 9 isn't really that important. The major emphasis will be on grade 11.

Thanks a lot =). I'm in the IB Programme, and received a 7 in SL Economics and Math. Does anyone know if a mere two subjects would be the major deciding factor of admission, grades-wise?

Since you're a Diploma Candidate (have fun next May...haha, sorry, I just wrote my last IB exam today. Finally done with IB!) you can have your IB coordinator put together a list of predicted IB scores to send to universities. Obviously your two 7s will be great, and I'm guessing your predicted scores for your remaining four courses will be up there as well.

Thanks, and congrats on getting into Penn! (where I want to go too).
