I am currently a sophomore at a fairly liberal and high level high school in New England. I have had my fair amount of struggles my first two years of high school. Recently I was diagnosed with ADD and started taking medicine to neutralize that problem. My gpa is roughly 2.6, not nearly where it should be or where I want it to be. I have every intention of going to a four year college, and generally do well on standardized tests. What gpa do i realistically need to get to have a good shot at going to a state school/ non selective private college. My gpa is rising since I started taking meds, and this semester I have a 3.7 gpa. Any advice?

A 2.6 will not prevent you from attending a 4-year college, especially since you have your entire junior year to prove to colleges that you are a much better student than your current GPA indicates. While you will most likely miss out on the chance to attend the most selective colleges out there, a strong performance during the rest of this year and all of junior year will give you a great chance at every other college. Keep in mind that it isn't just GPA -- your SATS/ACTS and extracurriculars should be good too.

Thanks a lot for the help. While my gpa is low, I have taken Latin 3-5, honors chem and biology, and academically challenging electives. My junior year I am focusing on the subjects I do better in, by taking AP english. I opted to take human anatomy and trig for math, the two subjects that have been the hardest from me.
