Help?

Hi. I need help with college selections/chances.

I'm a junior and I have no idea what college I want to go to or which ones will accept me.

I was thinking of applying to CUNY Honors, Columbia, Brown, Duke and a few others.

I haven't taken my SATs yet - taking them in the Spring.
My average UW is a 95.00% and I'm currently rank two. I am currently taking four APs - Chemistry, US History, Calc and English. I also plan on taking SAT IIs in the Spring, but I'm not sure which ones I should take...
My EC are pretty good as well.

Any pointers? Any advice will be greatly appreciated.
Can you guys chance me in the schools that I want to apply to and offer some more selections? My plan was to just apply to the schools that I want to go to and just go to the school that gives me the most money.

What do you guys think?

Thanks!

Miss_Murder, do you know what you're looking for in a school yet? Do you want a small school where you'll know everyone, or a large school where you'll be meeting new people everyday? Do you want to live in the middle of a bustling city, or in a serene rural area? How far away do you want to go? Do you know your major - and which schools have the best programs for it?
If you're not sure about the answers to those questions, I'd recommend visiting potential colleges over any breaks from schools - or even days off - you may have. If you take the PSATs, make sure you check off the box saying you'd like information from colleges and see what you get. Do some online searches on the College Board website, or read student opinions on "Students Review." You'll find everything you need to know about each potential college.
Overall, you'd be best at a school that will suit your academic needs IN ADDITION to your financial ones - and there are plenty out there.

Thanks for the reply Oh?.

See, the thing is that I want to do Law in a good graduate school, so for my undergrad I want to major in English or Bio Chem...Most likely English.

My original plan was to apply to CUNY Honors - because it is a pretty good package- and then see how it goes. And for my Graduate, I want to go to Columbia Law School.

When you say CUNY Honors, do you mean the Macaulay Honors Program? Because if you're looking to go to Law School later, that would be an excellent choice. The average for students accepted is a 93, so you fall in that range perfectly.
The other schools are more reaches / high reaches, though, as they would be for anyone.

Thank you very very much.
That helps me alot.

& that is exactly what I meant...Macaulay Honors Program.
Do you have any advice to which CUNY school would be the best to apply to?
I've been thinking either: Hunter, Brooklyn or Baruch.
I took a college course at Hunter during the summer, and it's a pretty alright school. The faculty are really involved.

Of the three, Baruch is most competitive regarding overall admissions, but Hunter has an overwhelming amount of English and Humanities majors. The other two are strong in business, but not much else. So I'd recommend Hunter =)

Thanks alot man.
That really helps me alot.
I also heard that Hunter provides Honors students dorms...do you know if that's true?
Besides those three...of all the CUNY schools, which would you say has the strongest English department...or which is ideal for an English major to apply to?

I'm just going to apply to all the schools I want to go to - Duke, Columbia, Macaulay Honors Program - and just see which one gives me the most money...

( :

Thank you very very very much Sabster.

Yeah, Hunter (and all the others) give dorms, free tuition, a laptop, a $7,500 grant to study abroad, and discounts on many of the city's cultural events. So it's a pretty nice package ;)
I've heard some nice things about the English program in Queens, but I don't think it could compare with Hunter (as I've heard others complain Queens was too much of a "science" school). I'd still wholeheartedly recommend Hunter, as it seems to have everything you need.
And I'm glad I could help! Good luck with your applications and admissions and such, and if there's anything other questions you have, don't hesitate to ask =)

Thank you sooo much.

My English teacher in my school went to Queens, and he told me it was a good school for him - he majored in English & he is an AP English teacher now.

I have some friends that go to Hunter, and they tell me it's too soon to tell whether the English program there is as superb as I hope it to be...

Also, the college course that I took at Hunter during the summer...I get 4.5 credits for it. Does the grade that I got on that course affect my average/gpa when I start college?
