I currently have 15 credits including a 3 credit organic lab. Problem is I'm doing horribly in the lab and there is mutual HATRED between the professor and I, and my TA hates my guts as well. Anyway, I think I've had it with this class and I want to take it during the summer where there will be a different prof. The minimum # of credits at my school is 12, and if i drop orgo lab i will have the bare minimum. I've averaged around 15.5-16 credits for my last 4 semesters here. I don't think I can handle orgo lab anymore. Is is alright to go and drop it?

Why do you think your Orgo prof hates you? Is this based on any comments he has made or it’s your gut feeling because you dislike him?

What do you dislike about your Prof? His teaching style, his grading, unfairness?

Any chance you could set aside all your opinions about him, meet him and chat with him to find out what is it that YOU could improve in your style and habits? Often, people reflect the attitudes they read in you.

Is it at all possible for you to make an appointment, meet him at a time he is not harried, and try to have an honest upfront conversation? However, when you do meet him, try not to blame him. Instead start by asking him what is it that YOU need to change to do better in the course?

This is an important aspect of many give-and-take relationships- “Having crucial conversations”. Often, people skirt away from the problem in turn only make it worse for themselves.

I suspect that if you show the interest and dedication, you could improve HIS mentorship toward you and get most out of him.

After you have tried, if it doesn’t work out, you still have a chance to withdraw from the course and complete with someone else, don’t you?

they hate me because i’ve messed up every experiment we’ve done in lab. the prof is just a bad person in general - no one likes her. will one semester of 12 credits look bad for med school? i really want to know if i can take this horrid course over the summer? thanks

I don’t think it will make a huge impact as long as you complete the lab in another semester successfully.
