I mailed in my common app the day before the break. (Don't ask me why I mailed it instead of doing it online). I gave my college guidance all the envelopes so that they can help me sent the transcripts and recs to the colleges and they sent it already before the break as well. I thought everything was all set since I sent everything in already. BUT I realize that I didn't mail the applications to the attention of the admission office!!! Instead, I mailed it directly to the campus!! And I've been waiting for the mail so that I know that the college received my app. but so far nothing. So do I need to redo and send in my apps, rec, and transcript again? Noooo!!!!!

help!

Rick, I do hope you made copies of everything (and asked your guidance counselor to make copies of all your recs) before mailing it in. That's a wise thing to do in any case.

As to your current situation, take a deep breath and keep some things in mind:

Colleges get a lot of mail and it takes time to sort it all out, especially if it's not addressed to a specific department.

Admissions Offices get thousands of applications this time of year, and it takes time to process all of them and contact applicants to confirm.

The college folks have been on break for most of the same time you have.

Outgoing mail takes a while to process at universities and colleges, and then of course there's the time it takes for the USPS to deliver it.

What would be appropriate is to phone each Admissions Office and politely inquire about your application: Have they received it? Is anything missing? If they haven't processed it yet, when should you contact them again? And you can tell them about having sent everything to the campus address, so at least they'll know it should be coming their way after a possible delay.

But really, today is too early to start panicking over not having a confirmation letter in hand from every college you applied to. Give yourself a break. :)

Chill out. Forreal. I'm sure lots of other applicants will make the same mistake as you. Chances are, your apps will somehow make their way to the admissions office. But I would definitely call each one to make sure that they've received them.

Calmez-vous.

I just called the colleges today and they said they received everything. I am so relieved...

Thank you for your responses!

***But one more thing. Does the colleges mail you a confirmation that tells you they received the application afterward? I asked but they didn't answer me...

Most colleges will send an email confirmation after they've processed (not reviewed, just processed) all the applications they received. And they'll notify you by email, postal mail, or both if any documents are missing from your file.
