Help

I was looking at Pitzer's requirements for admissions and they want three years of foreign language. Unforunately, I dropped Japanese for AP Psych my junior year and thus only have two..

does this completely blow my chances of admissions there??? I had a VERY rigorious schedule and great ACT scores...or am i still screwed

I suggest you email Pitzer’s admission’s staff.

i already did…waiting for a response as we speak

Perhaps you should consider taking the Japanese SAT Subject Test. If you do well enough I think they might take that into consideration.

My student got into Pitzer (Class of 2013) with only 2 years of a Foreign Language. I would not rule out applying because of this. I think that Pitzer takes a look at the whole student and not just a numbers game. It seems like there are many variables involved so try to shine in other areas. ECs, GPA (including Senior year - at least the first semester), essay, interview, course load, letters of recommendation, expressed entrence, etc. You can also submit your ACT scores as they are optional, but may help your chances.

Pitzer seems to have gotten increasingly very highly competitive each year to get into, so try your best and see what happens. Remember, the amount of students admitted are small compared to the amount of applications and it seems like the trend to reduce the amount accepted, since they are consistantly getting more positive “will attend” than they estimate.

So - in answer to your question, it is not a “done deal” if you do not have 3 years of a Foreign Language to get in, do extra well in other areas and hope for the best - but it can be done.

Pitzer is a great school but would anyone choose it over Pomona or CMC? If so why?
Any insight would be deeply appreciated

I would definately choose Pitzer over Pomona or CMC(i’m thinking of applying to Pomona, def no on CMC).
I prefer to be a big fish in a small pond and think Pitzer would be more nuturing for me

pwntya-
All three are very different schools. All are very good schools both academically and socially. Students would choose Pitzer because it fits them better, a bit quirkier, more flexible, stronger focus on social justice. Sure, it is not everyone’s cup of tea, but for those students who are looking for it, it is a perfect place.

Thank you. Maybe not my cup of tea but I appreciate the help. Good luck applying
