I am a senior, and being homeschooled.
no one in my family has ever gone to college so i am the first. so when it comes to applying for FASFA i am really confused. i got my EFC back and idk what my score means i got a "0" and idk what the EFC and if it is good or bad!

Can some one please help me...

love && elephants
ashly!!

Hey…remove your phone number. Click the blue edit and remove.

Mods…remove the phone number please.

An EFC of zero means that a university which has a policy of meeting “all demonstrated financial aid” will give you free tuition. So, yes, it’s a good thing. I don’t think you are allowed to post phone numbers though.

Having a 0 EFC can be good and it can be bad…it all depends on what your stats are and where you can get accepted.

If your stats are high and you can get accepted to a school that meets 100% of need with small or no loans, then great.

If your stats are modest, then your choices of colleges that meet need dwindle. Most schools cannot meet need.

You will qualify for about $5300 in Pell aid, and maybe some other federal aid. Does your state offer any aid to low-income kids who go to school in ND?

What are your stats?

Where did you apply? Can you commute to any colleges? How much does each college cost to attend (including room, board, books, etc).

I applied at Bismarck State College, and i got accepted to Le Cordon Bleu in Mendota heights, minnesota. But i am not going to Le Cordon Bleu because tution. tution at BSC is rounding to be around $4000

Ok…that is just the tuition. Are you going to live on campus? If so, how much is the room and board. Plus you’ll have to pay for books.

Looks like BSC has about the lowest R&B I’ve ever seen… http://www.bsc.nodak.edu/student/life/RatesSheet.pdf

Dorms are about …$2200 a year
Meal plans are about …3000 a year
Books…1000 a year

Tuition…4200 a year

Total …$10,400 a year
plus transportation and misc…so probably another $3k will be included in the COA.

Well, you’ll get about …$5300 in Pell money
You’ll get a Stafford Loan…up to…$5500 in sub and unsub loan

Hopefully you’ll get some SEOG money…
You’ll likely get some work/study…

Looks like all your costs will be covered. :)

Max Pell has increased and is $5550 for the 2010-2011 school year (every little helps). You may be eligible for the ACG if you meet the academic requirements. It is $750 for a freshman. Unfortunately it (and the SMART grant) are scheduled to go away after the 2010-2011 school year.

As mom2 said, with a 0 EFC you may be eligible for some SEOG. Schools decide their own criteria for offering it and the maximum they will award based on the funding they receive (at my daughter’s school it requires a 0 EFC and the max is $2000, at my son’s school it also requires a 0 EFC but the max is only $200).

Glad to hear that Pell is increased to $5550. That will help this student. :)

That, plus any SEOG, Work Study, Stafford, and anything else, will cover all costs. Thankfully, this student lives in a state where COA is so low!
