help?!

I am a student at a community college in california. I am about to finish my second semester in college. By then, I will have completed 33 units. Also, I have a 2.6 gpa, I know it's low. :( So do you think I even have a chance of getting into SFSU?

maybe but definitely need to get the GPA up.

Rizzy, can you find out what their requirements are for transfers? Check Collegeboard.com and SFSU’s common data set to see where you stand with that GPA.

Are you in SFSU’s “local” area? Meaning, completing the majority of your cc credits in the couple of counties surrounding SF? (I forget exactly which ones, but I think it includes Contra Costa and Santa Clara.) If so, you might have a remote shot with a 2.6.

If you are non-local in terms of county of cc residency, you have almost zero chance. Non-locals are having a hard time getting in (last to be chosen other than OOS students) and it is competitive.

Put another way, this year 2.6 was the rock bottom that many CSUs accepted for transfer this year (SJSU for example had a cut-off requirement of 2.6 for many of its majors, no matter where you started out cc-wise). Also, meeting the rock bottom requirements of 2.0 / 2.4 or 2.6 is no longer a guaranteed spot like it was in the past.

I expect the competition and the requirements to be even tougher next year for transfer students.

As for the advice on checking out collegeboard.com’s stats, I think those are too generic and out of date. One is better off digging around for very specific GPA cut-off lists from this last batch of transfers (Fall 2010) and keeping abreast with CSU impaction updates for Fall 2011 (on both CSU’s websites and the actual individual CSU’s in question websites).

I am in Stanislaus county it’s about 2 hours away form SF, so does that make me a “local?”
As of right now, my grades are getting higher and if I do well on my finals, I should finish this semester with a 3.0. Hopefully, this gives me a better shot of getting accepted.

Here is the link for the requirements: [Transfer - How to Apply - Future Students - San Francisco State University](http://www.sfsu.edu/future/apply/transfer.html)

Hm, it would make sense that CSU Stanislaus is your local CSU. I don’t recall SFSU having Stanislaus as one of its local counties in terms of admissions preferences.

The reality is that it will be tough to get into SFSU as a non-local with a 3.0. Not impossible, but you aren’t in the first barrel that gets selected.

True, but what is the average gpa of a non-local SFSU student ?

It should be around 3.3 - 3.5

That sounds reasonable having no other data points available. I know one student who was a California resident but non-local that was turned down by San Jose State University and he had a 3.3 with all pre-reqs finished. It was the GPA. SJ and SF aren’t the same institutes, but the numbers will likely be somewhat comparable.

Wow, a 3.3 is a good gpa too!
