I am preparing to apply to a few different colleges in florida and I am almost done with my online applications (just working on the essays now). I have taken the sat and got a very low score- 1400 for all three parts. My gpa is around a 3.9 and I have a very long list of extra curriculars. I'm taking the September act and the october sat. Scores won't come back for a few weeks after that. Should I submit my online application now and just wait the few extra months before sending the scores and transcripts? Also, I don't know if I should send recommendation letters or a resume. And if I do get letters do I send them? Or have my guidence counselor do it? And I filled out online resumes for most of the schools but they didn't give a lot of room to write so there are some things id still like to include. Helppp!

it does not matter when you send in the SAT. They will look at the highest one. So go ahead and apply

Ok thanks! I just still don’t know about the letters and resume

umm. you HAVE to send reco letters. and you dont send them. The GC does

Florida public universities are different than the rest of the country in terms of the way they do admissions and housing. You should definitely send all your applications and transcripts in now, so that you can get your housing deposits in (some of the schools do housing apps in the order that they get the application…at UF you apply for housing about a week or two after submitting the app, at FSU you don’t apply for housing until you are admitted but have to do it right away (pref. right after midnite) when you are notified for example). Send the transcripts as soon as your school allows and track that each school got them…you might be surprised at how many get lost in the system. Do not send your test scores yet until you see whether you did better on the SAT or ACT and send the best one. A 1400/2400 will not get you into ANY of the state universities since it is below the minimum but a bump of just 100 points might get you into UWF in Pensacola or maybe FGCU. You need about (rough guesses, check the websites to confirm) a 1750 to get into UCF these days (1150ish M/CR), you need about a 1800 for FSU and about 2000 for UF…all this is given your decent GPA and extra curriculars. A weaker GPA needs stronger test scores and vice versa. You can attach and send a one page resume along with your applications to expand on your EC’s.

Do not send recs for ANY of the Florida schools, they don’t read them. Save them for if you get differed or waitlisted…then have the GC send them together with an updated resume.

^^ i stand corrected then. Why do they not take rec letters

The schools in Florida are huge. The adcoms don’t have time to read them. ^^^

Ok thanks so much for your help. As of now, I have a 3.9 gpa. My sat score was a 1400 but I’m taking a class and hope to do a lot better my second time. I have not taken the act yet but I am registered for the septemeber test. My extra curriculars include: leadership for 4 years, freshmen class senate, sophomore class president, sga historian, 2 year varsity dance team member, varsity dance team recording manager, national honor society, national english honor society, ddk dance works dancer for 2 years, turning pointe stars company member for 10 years. Also I have done a good amount of community service and have won some awards such as lyman high school student of the month for december 2007. I am applying to uf, ucf, fsu, and fau so far. What do u think my chances are?

how competitive is your school? its just strange that you have a 3.9 and a 1400 on the SAT

Its actually pretty competitive. It was the first time I had ever taken the test so I expected it to be pretty low.
