Hey so this is my first post and i hope im doing this right. But I am a high school senior and want some help deciding where to go to college.

This biggest issue is the location. I dont know if i want to stay close to home (michigan) or go somewhere outside of the state. I want a medium sized college that had relatively small classes...I like the "cozy" atmosphere of a place but also the city..i do NOT want to be in the middle of nowhere.

The price cant be too expensive (like 30,000 or under??) and i would like to go no farther west than chicago or south than NC...the east coast if fine...maybe not NY? Anyway, i am not completely decided about majors but i want to study business, international (foreign languages!), film, etc. I may also be interested in some type of science.
Any and all help would be appreciated! =) thanks

More information, please. What is your GPA and your SAT/ACT scores?

Yes…we need your GPA and test scores.

Your $30k budget is going to limit you unless you can qualify for some scholarships.

What is your likely major?

Okay my GPA is 3.9 (without weighing for honors classes)
My ACT score is 28 and i did not take the SAT
I am ranked number 9 in my class of 270
I hope to find as many scholarships as possible…i am involved in my school and also do varsity gymnastics
My likely major would probably be a combination of something in communications (film, etc.), business, and/or international (languages!, etc.)
:)

btw the money limit is not definite…just an idea…

Unfortunately that ACT won’t help you. The SUNY schools would fall in your spending limit, as would U Minnesota.

Have you looked at the FAFSA yet with your family? You will want to start with a very clear understanding of your financial picture.

Figure out your expected family contribution. Does the FAFSA say your family can contribute $3,500 per year? $15,000 per year? $35,000 per year?

Have a frank discussion with your parents. Will they be willing to pay the amount per year that the FAFSA says they can contribute per year?

This will help you get a more solid idea about finances.

Michigan and Michigan State are both excellent schools, and I know there are other great in-state schools in Michigan. Do you have a safety school or two that you like? Find one or two places that you are likely to be admitted and you can afford. (If you haven’t done it yet, choosing your safety schools is a good next step.)

Post again about what your EFC is and what your parents are willing to pay, and the people who post often on this forum are sure to give you some great ideas.
