I want my career to be in the music business, I want to take a Music Management major, HOWEVER the university pages I've visited (that offer this program) require the student to play an instrument (i dont play any instrument).

Does anyone know of a school that offers a major where you learn the business side of music; is there a specific name for this major?

Well done. You tried to correct someone’s spelling on the Internet and you got it wrong. I’d stop posting on this board entirely if I did something so incredibly idiotic.

I’m with domrom on this one. I wasn’t going to say it, but since you’re so quick to jump, you should really mind your use of your and you’re, plsc. Or maybe you should might your use of them, I can’t keep it straight.

What you can do is get a business degree and work in a music business. You won’t be able to “manage” a music business just by knowing how to play an instrument.

SUNY Oneonta has a well respected Music Industry major that does not require you to play an instrument prior to college. It does require music. But it can be taking beginning instrument (such as beginning guitar) or joining a chorus while attending college.

But I would have to agree with the other threads that suggest you give some strong thought and research as to whether this is the best major for you. You, or your parents, are paying a lot to go to school. Besides the cost of school, you are giving up 4 (or maybe more) yrs. of salary. If you graduate with a major that did not prepare you for anything, or prepares you for a field that is declining and very hard to get into (music industry), what was the point?
