I'm currently a freshman at Stony brook, and need help. I want to switch my major, and get on the pre-med track. Who do I have to talk to get this done?

Start with whoever’s teaching your SBU 101 class and/or your Undergraduate College advisor; they’ll get you on track.

What is your current major? You don’t necessarily have to switch in order to satisfy pre-medical requirements.

Get rid of this misconception of yours, pre-med isn’t a major, and your major has no obligatory attachment to the pre-med TRACK. Pre-med means that you have to take a certain set of courses that med schools generally use to consider whether you are competitive enough and whether you have the capacity to do well in med school. If you’d like, think of the pre-med courses as the courses that “weed out” the competent from the incompetent, regardless of the reasons why those who don’t do well end up getting bad grades in those courses. Many doctors I’ve talked to have said to always go with the major you enjoy the most, whether you’re aspiring to be pre-med or not. If you’re concerned about what you’re going to do if you happen to get rejected from med schools, you may want to consider a major that is still useful at the bachelor level, so engineering or biochem or something of the sort.
