I thought it would be interesting (and very helpful) if we shared books that helped prepare or make the transition from high school into college. I'll start....

My older D found this book to be quite helpful: College Life 102-No-Bull Guide to A Great Freshman Year (I don't know the author).

If you are shy or unsure of yourself in any way (at any age) I would recommend a book called Don’t Call Me Shy by Laurie Adelman. Really helpful in getting you to believe in yourself.

Helped a friend of mine who started college last year.

My S got a book from my friend, “What do you say to a naked room mate?” or something similar. Not sure how “helpful” it was, but the title did get us thinking (he got it as a HS senior for Christmas).

My mom made me read “Who Moved My Cheese.” I asked her if I was being fired from the family.

I did thoroughly enjoy “How to Win Friends and Influence People” by Dale Carnegie, though. (If you’re thinking about buying it, go for the “Dale Carnegie’s Lifetime Plan for Success: The Great Bestselling Works Complete In One Volume” off of Amazon. It’s the same price either of the books included individually, plus it’s hardback and it has slightly larger print.)

HiMom: The Naked Roommate by Harlen Cohen is the one I think you are referring to. It is full of funny down to earth advice based upon the authors experiences as an advice columnist, online and in print I believe. My daughters and I read it last summer before they left for college. We enjoyed it and I do believe it armed them with a tool chest for getting along socially and academically in school.

How to Win Friends is a classic. H is reading it right now and it is having an exceedingly positive impact on our life together.
