My son has made his decision to attend FSU after our visit (and I'm thrilled), we live in NJ. I am looking for helpful hints in dealing with a student who has to fly back & forth for holidays, breaks, etc. For example, when would I purchase the Thanksgiving ticket to come home and how would I know when he might be able to fly home? Driving down isn't much of an issue but the flight reservations make me uneasy as I don't want to pay a fortune to get him back & forth. I've also already thought about Parents weekend & while its great the school already has info posted, some hotels are sold out! Another question, does anyone know what time of day students are allowed to check into dorms? Thanks to everyone in advance!

Because Tallahassee airport isn’t a major airport, prices to fly out and in are ridiculous. Your son’s best bet is to find a friend (or if he has a car) that can go to Jacksonville airport and safe a crap-ton of money on the ticket price.

For instance, a roundtrip from Tallahassee to LGA (im from NYC my usual :D) in march for two days is 365 bucks. From Jacksonville to LGA the price (March 10-12 as an example) is 232 bucks.
