Helpful software for college

Are there any programs or software that would be of great help for students in college such as onenote or active desktop calendar-programs that help with organization or just with anything for the average college student.

I'm sure you are aware of this, but the basics really come to mind for me: Word, Powerpoint, ect.

yeah, I'd say Office and Firefox too.

Free Software for College:

Ad-Aware SE Personal
AVG Anti-Virus
Firefox[/url]

Open Office
Spybot Search & Destroy
Windows Update

I'd also suggest acrobat professional, if you can come by it. I've found it to be very helpful to have a pdf writer when working in groups or needing to submit electronic documents to professors.

I'm not sure what major you are, but for engineers I'd suggest a autocad.

pkp: both Word and WordPerfect will output a document directly to pdf format. Acrobat does allow you to do a few things they won't, like add clickable notes notes and highlight but I really don't think those are so necessary. Besides both those programs will allow you to do the same thing if you're sharing the document with someone using the same program. Though I far prefer WP, it seems as if most schools recommend and standardize on Word.

I used to be a great proponent of both Ad Aware and Spybot, but recently I discovered System Mechanic 5.0, which does all that those two programs do and a whole lot more, plus there are settings for it to run a batch of utilities at once or even your choice of utilities at specified times (like when you're sleeping or at class).
