Helping a friend get in by talking to admissions at current school?

I was wondering if anyone had insight as to whether speaking to the admissions office on behalf of someone else does anything? Will my current just ignore it as blatant nepotism, or could it actually help?

Likely, they’ll smile and nod at you.

In the unique situation where they have already read your friend’s file, have a positive bent and may want confirming information, your chat might add to the tide --but don’t count on it.

Frankly, your opinion isn’t valued to them in 99.9% of the time.

It won’t hurt and it’s a nice thing to do. Will it make much difference? Probably not, but it’s still a nice gesture for a friend and it will probably mean a lot to him or her that you were willing to try on their behalf. Blatant nepotism? You don’t have that kind of power, so don’t worry about it.
