i reallllyyyy need help with making a decision.

I am currently living on Long Island (only 20 minutes from stony) and I really want to go away to college and have that type of experience, which is why binghamton is my second choice. I can not go to my first choice/dream school, UCLA because of money issues which is very depressing, but I am currently attempting to accept that fate. Anyways, Binghamton is my second choice which is why I might decide to go there. I haven't visited there but I'm sure I will like it.

The dilemma comes when I have a choice of Macaulay Honors at Queens College, which is free tuition and other benefits, but I feel like going to this school would not give me the FULL college experience I have always dreamt of.

In addition, I plan on pursuing medical school, therefore I will be going on a pre-med track as an undergrad, therefore stonybrook would be a very god choice for medical, but I just don't like that it is SO close to home. I also heard that the social life sucks at stony, which is making me not want to go there.

Since I want to pursue medical school, those expenses would be very high, which is why I shoud go easy for my undergrad, making macaulay the best choice.

Overall, the most important question is about the social life at these schools. As an asian girl also, where would I fit in the most and have the best college experience??

ANY HELP IS WANTED AND APPRECIATED!! THANKSSS!! =)))

Do not go to Stony Brook. It is an ugly, depressing school that managed to get a good reputation for science and especially pre-med. If you want a real college experience, go to Binghamton instead. But ONLY do this if your family is paying your tuition and total cost of attendance. You will surely rack up debt in med school, and you don’t want to take on ANY debt for undergrad. If your parents cannot pay the 15-20k for you to attend Binghamton, go to Macaulay. Free is good! You don’t need a typical college experience when money is an issue and you can have NYC instead.

Thanks sunshower212. You have made some good points. I have yet to visit StonyBrook and BU, but after visiting I would be able to make my choice. I also go to the city a lot so therefore I feel like I would be bored with it being that I nearly grew up there.

All in all, I am leaning most towards BU.

completely agree with sunshower. STAY AWAY FROM STONY. no one knows what it is outside of NY.

I concur. I live on Long Island, about 30 minutes from Stony Brook and I am not a huge fan of the university (and, as you know, there isn’t much to do in Stony Brook). Binghamton and BU are both great schools. My school sends about 15 (at least) of the top 10% to those two schools. Macaulay Honors at Queens College isn’t bad either, so that would be a great option as well. As for social life, I would say BU has the best social atmosphere. The students seem to be friendly and it is in Boston. I don’t know much about Binghamton, but I haven’t heard any complaints from the people I know there. Queens College appears to be a nice community too and it is near Manhattan.

I meant BU as in Binghamton University. Sorry for the confusion, I was abbreviating it.

Thanks for your views, I think I can say that now I have to decide between Binghamton or Macaulay at Queens.

If anyone can provide more information about diversity and social like at these schools, it would really help me with such a difficult decision.

Ironicallyunsure, you are hoping that your Cornell reputation will mean something. It is not reputation of the college, but your college performance that will determine job search or graduate school admission. There are many bright students whose parents cannot afford to pay the private universities.
