Hey I'm a junior in a public school in north jersey. My gpa is around 3.7-3.8 (i haven't checked in a while) and I have splendid ec's. I wanna go into neuroscience and eventually be a doctor, possibly a shrink. I also want to become a doctor that travels and does Doctors Without Borders one day in my life. Besides those dreams I have sat scores of Reading 680 Math 750 Writing 610, I know my Sats suck but I'm going to take them again in October and possibly break 2200 if my studying pays off. I have 250+ community service hours, president of my local People to People International Student chapter and member of a few clubs and honor societies with dedicated positions with them. i want to know if I can get into a really good school, possibly an ivy. I would also like to know of any schools that I would thrive in academically as a neuroscience/premed major.

I've taking AP CALC, AP CHEM and AP USH and all honors classes with calc college credits and I'm pretty sure I got a 5 on the exam this past week

I'm going to take AP Physics, AP Stat, and AP Bio next year and expect good results

Any suggestion or advice about anything college related would be appreciated. I also would like to know if I should look into any good schools via Early Decision/Action if possible.

THANK YOU.

Well first off how much can your parents afford(you want to go to undergrad debt free since med schools is very expense)? Also since you are in NJ what part of the country do you wish to attend university? Do you want a big or small school?

My parents could probably afford around 15-20K a year, and I would like to go school anywhere in the Northeast but I prefer places like Philly, Boston, and any good college town/city. I’m also open to any other schools that I might be better off in if an idea is brought to my attention.

Temple (safety), Villanova, BC, BU, GW, and Rutgers of course

wait, I heard BC GW and Villanova were alll very expensive so do you think I could afford that? and are their neuroscience respected at all?

Do you expect to obtain financial aid? What’s your family income?

My family’s income is about 85,000 with an older sibling in college and 5 people living in my house. So i expect some financial aid as well as other scholarships from various organizations from my town as well as others I plan to apply for. I will mainly rely on financial aid though.

Yeah the privates that were mentioned above are very expensive, but Boston college apparently meets 100 percent of financial need so give that a shot. I would definitely recommend Temple as a safety since it is in Philly one of the cheaper oos publics and your stats are enough for scholarship money. Think temple is around 30 grand but your stats are enough for the 10 grand oos scholarship. One place that comes to mind is the University of Pittsburgh, it has a highly regarded neuroscience program and it is in the city. When i applied last year I received some grants and you will probably too and maybe some a little scholarship money especially if you get those SATs up. Since you are in NJ definitely apply to Rutgers New Brunswick and TCNJ is a great deal education and tuition wise. You already have a great SAT score but if you are able to get that up I would suggest you even aim for Johns Hopkins and Brown.

Okay so I’ve thought about this for the last day or two and I sort of came up with a list:
Temple, TCNJ, RU, BU, BC, University of Sciences in Philadelphia, UPitt, JHU, and Brown (just for the sake of saying that I applied for an Ivy)
this isn’t a final list but a pretty good one in my eyes, thanks for the advice!
