You may not know, but something called the search tool exists on here. CC can be a very helpful resource if you know how to use it, or how to ask. You may also find that the general populace responds more positively towards queries using correct spelling and grammar.

okay first off , i joined the site two days ago so i honestly dont know alot about it. Second , please dont confuse my sense of politeness with ignorance because if you looked i said it was a CHILDISH post. But none the less, I am glad you took the time to criticize my post. I do hope we cleared everything up, thankyou.

^^Lol. You’re too funny. I’d love to help you but I don’t start BS until September. If you ask me again then I will be more than happy to fill you in on the “childish” aspects of boarding school life. Oh, and I, too am an African-American girl c:

All kidding aside, endthestars, this forum does tend to appreciate complete sentences and non-txtspeak.

And I made the point on using the search tool on another of your posts (though perhaps with a bit more sensitivity)…this is a common error made by newbs and sometimes even old-timers. Just a good habit to get into before posting a question. Chances are that someone’s had the same or similar questions before.

From my parental POV, I’d encourage you to widen your scope of schools to consider at this early stage in your search/application process. All those schools you’ve mentioned have great reputations, but also fairly low rates of admission.

Now, to try and answer some of your questions:

whats the dorms like
I think this varies from school to school. Some schools have newer/more recently renovated dorms than others.

where the heck do you potty and bathe.!!
With few exceptions, there are common bathrooms. At most of the schools, toilets and showers are individual/private…but the sink area is common.

do you guys like get to date (boyfriend girlfriend)
I cannot comment, but know that relationships do get established at BS.

can you go into town
Yes, most schools let you go into town but some require you to sign out before leaving campus. Of course, this depends on how close town is to the campus. In the case of Choate, it’s pretty close (walkable), in the case of something like SPS, it’s more of a bike ride.

can you stay at a friends house
If you are friends with day students or boarders who live nearby, I’m sure you can stay with them if you have permission from your parents. Some schools are 100% boarding. Also note that many schools have “closed” weekends where you are not really supposed to leave…could be pre-exams or for some all-school event.

are there parties
As in parties where drugs and alcohol are used? I’m sure there are at some schools, but of course, all who do so run the risk of sanctions, including expulsion.

hows the dress codes ?!
It depends on the school. Some schools require boys to wear a jacket and tie during the school day. Most schools insist on clothing “in good repair” and generally no athletic wear (shorts, sweats, etc.), in class.

are there any cliques
Boarding schools are high schools, so naturally some groups will form. But the extent to which this happens along socio-economic status, race, etc. lines will really vary by school and to some extent what kind of kids are in the student body for the four years you are there (meaning a school that was once known as one thing could be something different now). I would say that some schools try to foster less of a clique culture.

are you guys friendly
Again, I think it depends on the school and on what your definition of friendly is. Two people can have different takes on the same school.

im african american , theres no racism right ???
At many schools, non-whites are still a minority. So you may feel like an outsider depending on the culture of the school, but I think most schools try to foster an more race-blind culture. You will always have some people who bring their prejudices to campus, but I think that happens less and less.

are there like , school dances
Again, it’s high school right? So yes, all schools that I know of have dances or other social events. How fun they are and how well attended they are depends on the school and also the nature of each particular event. My daughter reports that the “Swing Dance” on the friday of Prom Weekend at St. Andrew’s was a blast and that a lot of people attended. Of course, as with a non-boarding school, you’ll have your holdouts on attempts at “institutionalized fun”.

Hope this helps. My advice is do really dive into the research of the schools on your own using the school websites — and to find the relevant threads here for the schools in which you are interested.

Last year, after my daughter went through the process of searching for, narrowing down, and applying to BS, I did a fairly comprehensive write up of every stage. She was admitted to two of the three schools to which she applied (two of the three are on your current short list).
