I am considering applying to Columbia through HEOP, however no where online does it mention what the academic requirements actually are, it just says that they must be met. I was wondering if someone could let me know what the lowest average GPA and SAT score would be reasonable for applying for HEOP for this school.
If you can also help, I would like the same information for Cornell.
The big piece is going to be if the student meets the financial requirements. There will be FAFSA, CSS profile and Non custodial profile. Most of these schools will give a wink on the SAT not so much on the GPA.
This will be the most holistic because they look at a history of being economically and academically disadvantaged. They will look for potential as what a student could do given the academic support (which is the mail goal of opportunity programs, not the money). (The doing well in a low performing school vs being low performing in an academically rigorous school).
@Kylemcgrogan what are your scores?
Will you meet the financial requirements?
Both are important. As I stated earlier HEOP will be the ultimate holistic process they look for a history of a student being economically and academically disadvantaged and having done the best given what they have had available to them.
Have you been identified as an HEOP candidate by Columbia?
Currently, no. Do you think columbia has already sent out all the heop potential candidate emails by now? Is it too late to even get the email now?
I’m so worried because i didnt receive anything yet.
That is the first hurdle.
Follow instructions and make sure that you submit every thing that they ask for?
Make sure that you get all of your financial stuff in ASAP. If you need to get a copy of the IRS transcript/ no files letter find out if your parent can go to the IRS and pick it up asap. If you need a budget letter is SS award letter, get it done asap
Remember there are a limited number of spots, the process goes forward. It just goes forward with out you. No time to waste.
I’m not sure what an IRS transcript is, but I don’t think they ever requested it. And I think I have everything in according to my portal.
There was also an interview that I did for HEOP (at least I think it was, there was no mention of HEOP at all during the interview) and it went horribly! I was so nervous and did a bad job at articulating myself. Do you happen to know if interviews are weighed heavily during the HEOP process?
Did you have a phone interview with some me one from the school? Usually they are trying to gauge your interest in the reran and see what you know about the program Gives you an opportunity to talk about your self They also try to figure out how you work with people because you will be your own little cohort over the summer
That sounds like a regular alumni interview. HEOP interviews are done by the HEOP office which is part of admissions
In your HEOP letter did they ask for additional information? What ever they ask for submit it. Financially they may ask for some additional things than what you may have already turned in
@sybbie719 As it turns out, you were correct. The interview that I had was just an admissions one. I recently had my HEOP interview and it went great, despite it being around 30 minutes.
