Hi, I am a student at a competitive high school in NYC.
- 83 unweighted, 85 weighted GPA
- 7 APs and 2 college courses (AP World, APUSH, AP Seminar, APCSP, AP English LIT, AP Gov, AP Psych – SOC 101, HTH 101 at Queens College.)
- 1240 SAT.
- Terrible ECs: social media director junior year for a club, treasurer senior year for same club
- First Gen college student
- About me: South Asian, Female, Eldest daughter
- personal essay is about me being the eldest daughter
I DO qualify for EOP/AIM, NYS CORNELL (middle 50%) requires:
92-92 GPA
1140-1250 SAT
Should I apply? What are my chances of getting in? Should I submit my SAT score? Any advice from past admits?
What does your GC say?
Where does an 83 put you in your class?
What do you do with your time outside of the classroom? Even if it’s playing video games in your room you must be doing something
What do you want to study?
Why (besides the famous name) Cornell?
What about it makes you see it as a good fit for you?
What do you think the admissions team will see as being why you are a good fit for them?
I am certainly not an expert on this topic, but your GPA looks like it it significantly lower than the range.

Again: where does an 83 put you in your class? If it puts you in the top 10-15% that’s one thing. If not, it’s roughly a 3.0, which puts you in the bottom 5% of students admitted to NYU.
Again: what do you do with your time outside of the classroom? it will matter: LS explicitly mentions an active & sustained level of involvement in school/community and leadership, which are notably absent from your post.
Also, decent odds that you would spend your first year abroad- would you like that, or does that defeat the purpose of applying to a school near home?
