Herbert Presidential Scholars?

Wow, Gino. Hudson Holland and Presidential and Excellence. Make extra sure that the Bursar’s Office has your correct bank account number. You will be definitely be making money the next four years.

Congrats to all the Presidential scholars!

Sadly, seems my daughter did not get the presidential, which I was REALLY hoping for. We’re in a big city and we already got today’s mail (Friday) - which included an IU postcard on how one can apply for financial aid at IU (that felt a bit like a smack in the kisser with such odd timing). .

I’d hoped her National Merit Finalist status might help offset her GPA/rank (3.7 UW but 4.4 W, only 8th percentile in her large school, but 2210 SAT in 11th grade, and 780/750 SAT IIs and a 34 ACT). But…she probably lacked enough leadership, or overcoming obstacles or something. She had both, but it they sound like a large part of the essay.

I’m not gonna complain, we’re luckier than many. She has 4 other scholarships at IU for about $15,000/year anyway. But, even at that amount if gives me a bit of an “out” to feel like it’s OK to spend more on a school in which she was more interested anyway. If completely free…it would be SO hard to say no.

A hearty CONGRATS to ya’ll who got it, and…if you go…I hope you REALLY enjoy your time at IU!

Thanks, bthomp1! So, you know how scholarships are awarded? Do I open a special bank account?

Congrats to all of you!

gino–IU will credit your scholarships to your bursar account. First it will be used to pay tuition, and then any other fees you have such as a dorm or meal plan. If I recall correctly they will then send you a check for any remaining funds. I don’t know they can direct deposit it to an account. Most college students find having their own checking/savings account is necessary.

That’s really helpful rrah. Thank you

They can actually electronically deposit everything over tuition, fees, and room and board that you pay to RPS into your savings account, and I assume other kinds of accounts. If you don’t give them an account number, they can mail you a check. Hudson Holland will give you an extra $1,000 for every semester you keep your gpa over 3.7, beginning the fall semester of your sophomore year.
