Herbert Presidential Scholarship from IU

I was wondering if anyone on this website has received the Herbert Presidential Scholarship from Indiana University. I am really striving for this scholarship! I know that all you have to do is apply to IU and you could be considered. What made you get this scholarship? What was your GPA, SAT score, extracurricular/leadership involvement? Also, how much money did you receive? Is it true that you have to be National Merit Scholar?

Thanks so much for your help!

The person in our school that won it was a NMF, 4th in class, great grades and okay ECs. It is a great scholarship, but not the only good one from IU. The auto merit basically covers full tuition and there is a good honors program. On top of that, there are scholarships for research and working students.

If you have any interest in IUPUI, there honors program is actually a separate Honors College, with special facilities, luxurious honors apartments, etc and has great scholarships as well.

It does seem like the awards go to NMFs and National Achievement Finalists (for African American students).

Maybe these are offered to these students as an attempt to keep them from going OOS to school?

IU is very generous toward IS students. You should go to the IU forum to join the discussion.

^^^

Yes, IU is in regards to their assured scholarships for stats.
The one below seems to be either full tuition or close to it.

IU Excellence - $36,000 ($9,000 per year)
The IU Excellence Scholarship is awarded to the best and brightest students in the state of Indiana who meet each of the following criteria:

Indiana resident
Minimum SAT score of 1350 or minimum ACT of 31
Minimum GPA of 3.80 on a 4.0 scale

IU Prestige - $12,000 ($3,000 per year)
The*IU Prestige Scholarship is awarded to Indiana resident students who meet each of the following criteria:

Indiana resident
Minimum SAT score of 1250 or minimum ACT of 28
Minimum GPA of 3.70 on a 4.0 scale

However, the Herbert scholarship is highly competitive and is awarded to students attending a few different IN publics… I’m not even sure if the IU-B people actually get to do the selecting. It seems like a centralized diversity office does the selecting.
