any significant ECs?

so... 3 ppl IN, 1 deferred in this thread..
and us west-coasters will have to wait a painful 3 days.......

im deferred too, just couldn't get myself to admit defeat yet.

Baseball player/recruit

heh, I wish I had a hook. Turns out my hook was a little dull. Did MIT actively recruit you?

This makes me really happy. I'm hoping that the CC boards are just generally much better, more obsessive students than most MIT applicants, meaning we'll all get in :-) (or, more specifically, I'll get in).

Congratulations to all who made it.

that's not what it means... its just illustrating that voluntary response jacks everything up. All the rejects don't rush to the CC board and post "I GOT REJECTED!!!!!!" however, congrats to those that did get in :-)

caucasian/female

Congrats, redsoxfan!

wow, congrats to you guys!

btw, i saw a template on the georgetown board for people who've recieved decisions already, and i thought it seemed like a pretty good way to post stats and resume and etc. apparently you copy the template from http://www.ubermeese.com/format.txt and fill it out. once you post, it looks like this:

Decision: Sample

Stats:
[ul]
[]SAT: 1600
[]SAT IIs: 800
[]GPA: 4.00
[]Rank: 1/250
[]Other stats:
[/ul]
Subjective:
[ul]
[]Essays: about x and y_ (or "good," "great," etc.)
[]Teacher Recs: good, great. etc.
[]Counselor Rec: good, great, etc.
[]Hook (if any): cured AIDs and ran for president
[/ul]
Location/Person:
[ul]
[]State or Country: somewhere
[]School Type: public, private, governor's, etc.
[]Ethnicity: whatever
[]Gender: whatever
[/ul]
Other Factors:
[ul]
[]anything else you think might have influenced... eg. your dad is a congressman or you have legacy
[/ul]

General Comments: feelings, congrats to others, good wishes, etc.

i'm wondering if people would be interested in doing that here--maybe in a new thread--to help each other get a sense of what's going on and eliminate chains of questions like "what's your GPA" and "what are your ECs?"

the problem with "good, great" is that they're so subjective ... I wonder if someone could seriously rate their own essays... or recs that they may have not seen... :)

for essays, i guess it would be better if people just say what they wrote about. for recs/interview, i think people should have a pretty good sense of how their teachers/interviewers feel about them...

but you're definitely right--that's going to be the fuzziest part of this whole unified-posting thing. what do you think of the general idea, though?

I do like the general idea. We just need to make sure that we get an idea of what the other things are besides stats, because especially at mit they can make all the difference :) I think what you have does that pretty well.

I think the biggest problem will be trying to get us to conform to that format when we're jumping for joy with an acceptance letter in our hands :D :D

Hmm... that seems like a good idea :)

does anyone who got their letter already want to start it off, either here or in a new thread?

lol most of us haven't received anything yet, so we'll need to be patient for a couple of days :P

Ah, the feeling of wallowing in my nerves. (What an image!) Who are the other West Coasters here?

breadpitt
LSA (well, not quite coast, but approximately the same distance from Boston)
...

West Coast from California.
My brain was...blank when the mailman didn't pull a big white envelope out today. But the letter is not there!(as expected) That made me happy.

lol i know i know... patience is a virtue. im just in major panic mode right now, super-jittery and gobbling up any info i can get to try to calm my nerves down!
