Is it worth applying here regular decision? I was under the impression that UVA was harder to get in for out of staters than UNC chapel Hill- but UNC takes less than UVA-- i can only apply to a limited number of schools- what should i do?

Here's the deal, seems like you're into more liberal arts and UVA has a very very good program. Just because it accepts more, does not mean that they're a worse school. It just means they have a higher capacity for incoming students. Honestly, you excel and be a wonderful addition to UVA. You're definitely going somewhere in life, and UVA will help you get there. Apply regular decision, I'm sure you'll make it in.

thank you! so i will not be shut out by waiting to apply reg instead of early?

I'm not worried about prestige- i just care about if i have a better chance at either of the tow schools. I'm so confused about where to apply- there are about 7 schools that i rotate, rearrange and change in my mind everyday. and 2 defs.

I hope UVA is one of your definites. But yeah, you'll definitely get in under regular. My qualifications aren't as impressive as yours.

-3.87 gpa
-1340 in sat (old one)
-eagle scout
-nhs, mu alpha theta and other clubs
-5 ap courses

Just be sure to include good essays, that'll seal the deal for any school you apply to. Don't worry about being accepted to UVA, worry about it if you're applying for a school like harvard. Eagle Scout is probably very persuasive too ^^. I've heard of cases where you might be too good for a school. Like my friend who applied, got into harvard but got rejected from george mason university. Very weird.

"But yeah, you'll definitely get in under regular."
That is a very bold statement. You are qualified BUT UVA rejects MANY qualified out-of-staters(thank God i wasn't one of them!). Good luck tho.

agh, i didn't notice the out of state dealy. There might be some change in that. Sorry bout that.

I think you should apply....the $60 some dollars or whatever price it is to apply is very small in the long run - plus you definitely have a shot. Lastly, if money is an issue, UVa provides great financial packages for out of state students - see the new program AccessUVa, where students incur little or no debt after their 4 years at Virginia.

ALSO- can you please share advice/ info about the application. What there essays generally tend to be or what they for or if they weight them much (like Penn weights essays more than Princeton persay)-- anything unique about UVA i should know as i try to learn more about it

As far as I am concerned, the UVA adcom seems to weigh quantifiable information (GPA, SATs, etc, but especially GPA) over essays and the like, at least for in state.

Essays tend to weigh a lot. Out of many qualified applicants, it is usually the essay which separates you from the crowd and gives the university a chance to set you apart from the rest.
