Here To Help the Class of 2013 From: Class of 2012

thanks, that really helps =)

For apartment style dorms, like 3rd North, are you only allowed to put a t.v in the living room?

Or is there a way to have your own t.v in your room as well as one in the living room?

@NyJeo

As I said to one of the above posters, you can have the TV in your room as long as it fits and isn’t an obstacle to you or your roommate (I’m thinking of a TV that is so big it goes beyond, say, the top of a dresser–and this isn’t a requirement, just a nicety I think you should bestow upon your roommate). Make sure to also bring a long TV cable, as the outlet for it may be located on the other side of the room. Also, contact your roommate and make sure both of you don’t end up bringing huge TVs.

O okay thank you. I was worried that were was only one cable outlet per apartment dorm and that cable outlet was located in living room. Now I’m guessing there is more than one outlet

Hi, I have a question about getting internships during freshmen year. I got into Stern and I was wondering if it is possible to do internships during freshmen year or should I wait until I go to my second year? Also, should I look around now or wait till I get to New York? I am an international student btw.

don’t do an internship freshman year. ENJOY your freshman year because it’s the only year in college you have where you have time to explore. besides, you don’t have enough experience to get placed anywhere significant. (sorry, but it’s true.)

haha nah it’s alright, I definitely agree with you on the experience part. alright then, thanks for advice.

Hey when exactly do we pick our classes and specify any additional majors or any minors?
Also are the weinstein dorms as bad as they are reputed to be? Because Im considering going there if the rooms are at least ok because its so close to campus!

You pick your classes at orientation. You can specify a major or minor at any point after you begin classes, but you must do so before graduation.

Weinstein isn’t bad. It’s very much a dorm with slightly somber rooms, but they are spacious and certainly not hell-holes.

Cheers, weinstein it is :)

The other good things about Weinstein are that it has two dining halls, and it’s pretty social. It’s quite possibly the closest thing NYU has to a “regular” dorm experience. Just make sure you get a mattress pad (those thin foam ones) because the beds are extremely uncomfortable otherwise (but this is true for all NYU beds).

regarding internal transfers… would it be possible to transfer from stern to tisch clive davis department of recorded music

It’s definitely easier to transfer OUT of Stern than IN to Stern, but on the other hand, it’s difficult to transfer into Tisch. My question, though, is why would you be in Stern in the first place if you want to transfer to a recorded music program?

because i didn’t have anything i could submit to the recorded music program at that time… and i didn’t have any music guy who could write a reccomendation… and i fear that i won’t be suited (pardon the pun) for business in the long run

So, are you going to attend Stern in the fall?

I mean, it’s do-able, obviously, but will you have the time to prepare something for the application while you’re studying for your Stern classes? And will you be able to find someone to write a recommendation? I guess, if all else fails, you can transfer to Steinhardt or even CAS.

BTW I AM BPE.
