Here we go.Tell me if I'm good for EA at Yale.My decision is in your hands!

Hi,I'm an International Student from India applying this year.I want to apply to Yale but I'm not sure if I'll get in....AT ALL(of getting in that is).I come from a place where hardly anyone knows about the college admission process and what the stats of a Yale acceptee look like(Yes,after CC,I've looked at the acceptance threads, but that's it).I'd be very very grateful if you could tell me where I stand.

SAT 1-Taken this October.I know I'll get atleast a 2100,I cannot say for certain anything beyond that. Also, please don't tell me you cannot accurately chance without it because that would be of no help to me.The above score is the minimum I can get.(My practice tests were in the range 2100-2260.I hope this helps).

SAT 2- Chem-750. Taking PCM in November.

Class Rank- Our school ranks in a different way,but it's top 2-4/250 every year.

Senior Year Courseload- International Curriculum.I'll just say it's the toughest available.

School Type- Private.Adjudged Best school in Delhi a loooong time ago.Like it matters now.
Gender-Female obviously. No guy would have the name 'perfectpixie'.
Income Bracket-Low.Shall be requiring full fin. aid.
Hooks-Not a major hook,but...maybe the income bracket?And my mom's a single parent.

Thank you in advance! I repeat your help would be very much appreciated and is very much required! :)

Guys please,Bump.I need some serious help :)

Oh,and I forgot to mention in the above post, the newspaper featuring of the TT activities wasn’t specific to Table tennis. They talked about the whole competiton.A portion of my match was aired on tv though.

Best school in Delhi? Isn’t that presumptuous?

Your EC’s are great though! Maybe cut them down a bit to focus on the best parts cause it might seem like you’re too spread out. SAT score could be better. Overall, I’d say you have a decent shot.

It no longer is the best school in Delhi. In the later half of the top ten now,I think.Maybe.Anyway,I just found it on the web while googling and listed it here to help you get a fair idea.

Thanks for your opinion! Which EC’s do you think I should cut down on?
I thought of listing Drama even though I did it only for a year because I won a major prize during that year. But do you think I shouldn’t list it?

I’d maybe cut the Ed Board and either drama or debating. I’ve had to cut stuff too. It sucks. But it makes sense.

I thought India, specially Delhi, sends quite a few kids to the best colleges. :/

But Ed Board is really huge in my school. I get what you mean though. I don’t want the focus to slip from my main EC’s too. I’ll keep your suggestion in mind. :)

Yes,India does.Delhi does.Doesn’t mean everyone from Delhi hails from that priveledged strata of society.I am thinking of emphasizing that in my essay which talks about something a typical US college bound student wouldn’t have experienced.

Ed Board is huge in mine too. :)

I did the same thing! Hope it works. fingers crossed Are you applying SCEA or RD? Since you haven’t done your essays, I’d assume RD.

Where is it given I’m not done with my essays? I’m in the process of editing them now. Sorry,I meant that in my essays I have already tried emphasizing that.

If you’ll read the topic of my thread, you’ll see that I’m applying EA. If I don’t feel too nervous about my future and don’t apply to D’mouth ED that is.Which is very probable to happen for a currently very worried senior like me.

Oh yeah i forgot the thread title. Oops.
Go with whichever college you want to go to more. And don’t do ED unless you’re sure about it. Dartmouth is freezingggg. Specially after Delhi. It’s the main reason I’d probably choose any of the other Ivies (except Cornell) over it. Plus it’s rural.

Honestly, it’s very hard to say. Your ECs are interesting and impressive, and I see no reason to change any of them, if they are what interest you. But a lot will depend on you scores. Also, note that while Yale is need-blind for internationals, other selective schools are “need-aware.”

Don’t cut any ECs unless you want to. Dropping things sernior year doesn’t look good.
You’ve got interesting ECs.

I know you don’t want to hear it, but without real scores, nobody can give you any meaningful assessment of your chances.

Hunt and jonri-Thank you for your opinions! But I’ve already told you they’ll be in the late 2100-early2200 range since there’s no telling what mistakes I might have made. Honestly, imo the SAT score isn’t that much of a big deal as it’s made out to be. I mean, why don’t you just see the predicted scores and class rank? I think I might just list the less important EC’s in the end then.
I knew this would be the answer to my thread by many posters but I still created one before getting the actual scores because it’s such an urgent deadline.

Oh and my predicted SAT 2 scores for Nov= 750 is the lowest I can get on any subject. My school curriculum is>>SAT subj syllabus.

Thanks! :)

SAT scores are a pretty big deal, especially if it may be difficult to compare your grades to those of schools in the U.S. In terms of SCEA at Yale, I would give a different evaluation to somebody with 2100 (not too encouraging) and somebody with 2250 (more encouraging, but still tough).

I think a good way to get a read on your chances is to look at the results threads for prior years here.

Oh. Thanks for your evaluation Hunt
I have read the accepted threads here, but I don’t consider myself to be equipped with enough information still to evaluate myself.
The Adcoms at colleges at schools like Yale are very very familiar with my country’s system of evaluation.

I got worried seeing that people weren’t thronging my thread to chance me and thought of giving it a bump to make the bubble yellow again ;)

I haven’t dropped them for senior year. Do you mean for senior year I must write the year 2011? Our school year starts in April and ends in early March.

Bump please!

What are you hoping someone will say? Obviously, as you probably full well know, you’ve got a chance of getting in. Beyond that, there’s nothing in your stats, nor in virtually anyone else’, that allows someone to give you a more concrete answer than what you’ve already been given.

^ If you had read my OP before posting you would have seen that no, I do not know if I have a good chance of getting in. Everybody has a chance of getting in. My question had pertained to if I have an above average chance. Anyway, I do agree that chance threads don’t mean anything much so I’m not going to bump this again.
