This is a very active Facebook community for Cal Poly parents. Actually, not just for parents of newly admitted. My daughter is a 3rd year and I’m a regular! But, it’s a great way to orient yourself to Cal Poly. It’s moderated by folks from Cal Poly Parents who are a wonderful group on campus who can answer a lot of your questions and concerns. Aside from that, the parents are able to network and have been successful in matching their students with rides home or offered to deliver something to someone’s kid on campus. Lots of tips and sharing among parents! Here’s the link: Facebook

2Leashes: Thanks for the tip about this Facebook group - I saw lots of great discussions about topics that I had/have questions about. Wish I had known about it sooner! I also saw that there is a Facebook group for out-of-state parents like myself: <a href=“Facebook - log in or sign up”>Facebook - log in or sign up. Great way to network and share info, lessons learned, lend support, etc. You are always so helpful!

Thank you, COparent! Yes, I forgot to mention the OOS branch of this group. Also, ones for various areas of the state of CA such as the Bay Area and so forth. It wasn’t around when my daughter was a freshman and it would have been a great go-to group. Myself, I’ve learned to step back and let my daughter take care of everything herself, (except the $$$$$. That’s what Mom and Dad are for.) I know it can be easy to be “helicopter parents” and I’ve definitely noticed some of that in the group. But, at the same time, the support is nice! Not to mention that we still get to brag a little about our kids, even if they’re in college. ;)
