Hernandez Application Boot Camp

i am considering the july program for summer 2011. all those who have been there, and ONLY those who have been there, please tell me if you thought it was or was not worth it and why. thank you!

bump… really no one’s been?

Maybe people are reading your question too literally; if so, nobody will respond, because nobody has attended the July 2011 program yet.

But seriously, I’ll give you a little input, even though you ONLY want to hear from those who have been there, and I haven’t.

Michelle Hernandez is good. Her books are a bit outdated, but I’m sure she’s up to date in real life. You could probably learn a lot of valuable tips.

I only question how much help she can give a rising senior. In my opinion, most of the difference-making acts for a succesful elite application must occur long before July before the senior year.

Good luck.

But I would have to question as to whether it is truly worth the money.

Kind of sad this exists. Do you pay for it?

Their CD-ROM course is $800; the 4 day in-person bootcamp is $14,000. It is the latter that I was referring to in terms of a dubious cost/benefit ratio (and which I believe OP is asking about.)

^ Wow. I’'m shocked. Her books are less than $20, and CC is free.

I’m not against college counselors in general, but her prices are a tad ridiculous. Buy her books instead–there’s some great advice in them.

This is America.

If she can charge those prices and people willingly pay. Power to her!

What a great country we live in!

I think her books are terrific. I’m glad she lives well.

I think people will pay the $14,000 – the “boot camp” gets booked up well in advance. One of my friends attended and loved the experience (kids from all over and fun group), although he acknowledged that all he got done was a decent first draft of his college essay, an ok backup for other college questions, and a reasonable extracurriculars sheet. That wasn’t much for $14K. There may be “atmospherics” that contibute, however. Also, the people take a look at all of your stats and tell you where you should apply ED, EA etc. and where not to waste your time. College counseling delivered by admissions officers.

i know two people who attended this last year. from what they said, it was a waste of time. the essay editor was a complete nincompoop and michelle barely ever said anything that they didn’t already know from CC/books etc. i haven’t been to her camp so i am not sure if any of this is accurate.

yeah i do believe $14000 is too much.
