Herndon

xchefmike,

True. However, the same cruise can be done during block 1, 2, and 3.
It is one thing to hear about the stories of being in sea trials and Herndon and another to personally experience it.

So…for those of us unable to attend Herndon…can anyone give details on how it went? Thanks!

1 hour, 14 minutes, 38 seconds.

Tribute to MIDN Eisler, who’s cover was placed at the top of the monument. Eisler was a member of the class of 2012 who passed away this past year, thus the Herndon Climb was dedicated to him.

Of the current classes at USNA, 2009 still holds the record- with a whole lot more lard and more tape holding that plebe cover down to boot!

Congrats to the (finally) 4th Class Midshipman of the Class of 2012!

The commandant revised it to 1 hour, 14 minuted, 9 seconds, which means 2009 by 6 seconds.

USNA1985-
My husband also had the moat. If my youngest goes to Navy, I think my husband just might go dig a moat the night before the big event! Ha.
I love everyone’s take on the changes. The hose being used to cool the plebes or wash off the lard…I thought it was to make everything extra slippery!
Herndon has been my favorite event so far. My plan is to be in Annapolis for Herndon as a great start to commissioning week Class of 2010!!

The Dant revised the time? Another excellent example of 2012 getting off easy…

And for those of you that weren’t there…there was barely any lard, and the cover wasn’t even taped down. Weak.

But Sea Trials was 18 hours this year…

I finally got the Herndon videos up on YouTube. I distilled it down to about 30 minutes, including the festivities afterwards. I had to post it in three 10 minute segments.

If you want to cut to the chase, Part 3 has the successful ascension, plus my favorite moment, when the celebrating mids realize that the band is playing Blue & Gold. A hush falls over the crowd, hats come off, hands go to hearts, and everyone sings.
