Just wondering if any CCers applied for this scholarship and when they would let us know of their decision.

Hey guys,

(I hope I haven't missed an already active thread about the subject....)

I just got my notification of Semifinalist status for the NSA scholarship. I've been reading over previous years' threads and it seems ultra interesting!!

How many other people heard back from them? Anyone have any good advice?

Rupac

Hey. Sorry to enter the thread without any knowledge or advice to give. I am actually curious about the Stokes Scholarship program. How difficult is it to receive this scholarship? Is it basically guaranteed to go to only the best and brightest students attending only the top schools, etc.? And approximately how many are given out per year?

Yeah I applied a long time ago and just recently got notified (2 days ago) that I am a semi-finalist. I had my phone interview schedules for today but I didn't get it...I don't know what that means D: but I'm gonna reschedule for later.

All I know about this is stuff from previous threads like about going to the fort for an interview and the 15-ish final spots they have.

My phone interview is tomorrow...anyone been through the experience want to share?

mcohen28: it's a scholarship intended for minority students in the US who are majoring in computer science, math, elec. engin., and a few more. you have to meet a certain GPA and SAT score to be allowed to apply. also, the scholarship pays for your entire college tuition including housing, books, etc. you work for them during the summer and then for 1.5 times the number of years u were in college after u finish ur education.

Anyone have any info about the psychological eval. or the polygraphs??

Rupac

So it is only for minority students, or just the majority of the scholarships go to them? If so, that ruins my chances for it when my time comes.

It's not only for minorities but I guess they put some importance in that

The phone interview is just a bunch of confirmation questions like your address and if you have done drugs, etc.

I have no idea how the in-person interview is gonna be x___x

Just had my phone interview... was supposed to have it last week but due to illness, etc. it was postponed to today. it went well and yes, just like the poster above me, the questions were about stuff like that.

anyone else going to maryland for the in-person interview thing and if so, in what subject?

Rupac

I forgot about the phone interview so they kept calling me and I eventually picked up LOL.

I just finished my 40+ pages of forms and will send them soon

I haven't heard anything else about the scholarship since the phone interview

the scholarship is NOT for minority students - it is for the most driven, most intelligent people (with some non-work related things thrown in, like patriotism and honesty)*. The NSA is an equal opportunity employer, and this is essentially a job. They say its a scholarship, but what it boils down to is that you are seeking employment from them, and your job is to attend college in certain fields. As for the interview in Maryland, I believe that you go there as long as all your information is correct and you are a semi-finalist.

*The official NSA website says that the scholarship is intended to facilitate the recruitment of individuals, PARTICULARLY minority high school students, however, it does not state that it gives specific preference to them. If you are a minority, you have a higher chance with the scholarship, but you have very little to worry about if you have what the NSA is looking for - even if you are not a minority.

Yup I handed in all the paperwork and they should be starting the next step of the process for me.

hey guys,

I was wondering if anyone had heard anything yet about their status? I know we should hear by friday but I wasn’t sure if any heard earlier!

Thanks guys!

Lilly

Yea some one from my interview group already received notification that he is a finalist. That suggest to me that all the finalist have already been picked because when I was up there Ms. Paige told us that the finalist will be the first to know. So if you received a notification congrats.

Have the interviews been conducted already? >>
I haven’t even heard anything further in the process from them since turning in the security forms… <<

Hmm, they did my background investigation (DoD investigator came to my house and neighbor’s houses, went to school, picked up transcript, and sent everything in) but I haven’t received any information about the interview…

Oh good that makes me feel a lot better about not hearing anything for so long either…
I’m just wondering if they will get on with this thing before our college terms start <__<

Meh I didn’t get it. Good luck to everyone!

@ thegreenshinobi: Did you have your interview? If so, when? And when will they inform everyone about their statuses?
