Hey BAH, how is your first year going?

Hey BAH, haven't seen any posts form you, just wondered how your first year is going?

Hey KJC!

I posted in the transfer thread earlier. Last semester was a bit of a shock, but this semester I seem to be in the swing of things. I’m definitely enjoying myself overall though. I am not liking the cold, though it did mean I wound up getting a snow day on the second day of classes this semester. :)

You better get in this time, dammit! :D

I’m trying again this time as a junior transfer after being wait-listed and then denied last year. I’ve kept my GPA up (3.836) for three full semesters now at a good university while taking honors classes. I worked really hard on my essay so that it conveyed I was motivated and curious, kind and selfless, along with being well-rounded. I even have a letter of recommendation from the head of the poly sci department where I received an A+ in a class he taught last semester.

I just don’t know what else I can do. If I’m not outright accepted, I don’t put too much stock in getting in off the wait list. Wish me luck!

Glad to hear you’re transitioning in and things are settling down, but I figured you would make it work. Carolina is a great school and you have what it takes to be very successful there. Keep up the good work!

I transferred in as a junior, and according to all accounts, it’s easier to get in as a junior. Most of the kids who got heartbroken right out of HS try to transfer in after a year somewhere else, and after that, most just deal with being somewhere else. Most, lol. Not hating on anyone crazy about their Carolina. But people trying to transfer in as a junior I noticed are a completely different group of people. They’re definitely more laid back, and tend to be older, like myself. Some of these kids are super high strung about college. Some just spend class on facebook. :P

I would have to say you’d be an easy in as a junior. I hope they don’t have that crazy delay in decisions like last year, I got my decision TEN days after the “official” release day. Worst 10 days of my life. I was pretty sure I was going to go nuts, and I really don’t wish that on anyone. I still feel terrible for the people who waited almost 2 weeks to get a no. Mine had a happy ending, at least.

I’m just functioning on the assumption you’ll be here in the fall. :P

Being wait listed was agony… Not only did I have to wait those 10 days with you, I then had to endure the wait into June to see if I would come off the wait list.

If I make it for Fall 2011, I’ll be the 5th generation on my family at UNC. Our roots run deep in Chapel Hill.
