Hey, Can You Review Me

Hey--

So, I'm trying to feel out a college, and I'm mainly concerned about what schools will accept me. I'm really into the prospect of a liberal arts college(like Evergreen), but my mom really wants me to try for an Ivy, which I don't think, given our circumstances, is practical. Would you guys mind looking at some colleges I've narrowed it down to (it's still a lot, sorry) matched up with some facts about myself to see where I stand and don't?

Mom wants me to go to:
Duke, NYU, Yale, Boston College, Harvard, Princeton

I'd like:
Tulane, New College of Florida, McGill, Pratt, Howard, Evergreen State, SAIC, Reed

I'm hoping to major in Creative Writing or English and minor in Archaeology or something like that.

I'm:
An outragously poor Black, Canadian-Trinidadian female raised by her single mother. I'm currently attending a very selective creative arts boarding high school. I'm majoring in creative writing here. Some of my other skills include film, which I majored in last semester. Here, I have ECs in Technical Theatre. I have a portfolio of workshopped, revised writing.

HOWEVER, I:
-was recently suspended for a tobacco violation
-had decent grades my frshman and sophomore year, when I attended school in Trinidad and Tobago. It was a differnt schooling system (British) and converting them was sort of chancy. It made for a 2.763 GPA-- my grades took a bit of a fall my sophomore year whenmy mom was diagnosed with cancer, but I picked my grades up, and my GPA last semester was a 3.3 and I currently have all As in my classes for this semester.
-took the SAT when I was a sophomore, scored a little below 1900, and have been doing practice tests, and have been making a bit below the perfect scores

My ECs back in Trinidad covered a broad range, and I was involved from when I was eleven to when I moved away at fifteen. Volleyball, Creative Writing competitions, ISCF, placements in national exams such as the Math Olympiad and Pascal Exams, several certificates regarding academic excellence, class VP (twice), pageant placing, community service working with children.

My ECs here are:
Student Senate, GSA

This summer, I'll be working with animals (along with starting college apps)

I'm not concerned about my essay-- I have good communicative skills and very good writing abilities, and will most likely be innovative, genuine and thorough with my personal statement.

So, all of this considered, does this make me a good candidate for any of the schools mentioned above? Do you all have any recommended schools? I'm pretty skeptic about the Ivy's, and my hearts not entirely in it, but I believe I'd be a bit more motivated to apply if I possibly could get in.

Thanks for your time.

I think the colleges you are looking at are much better fits for you than the ones your mom wants. Honestly, I don’t think you have much of a chance at all to get into any of them. The one’s you are looking at, however, are at least in your range and you should try for some of those.

Howard is a great school and it sounds like you might like it, but it is known for being very professional and business minded. You might not like that if you’re an artistic type.

Would you consider Emerson in Boston?

Howard is business and professional and artistic. The number of artists, writers and journalists that come from Howard are impressive.

Check out the websites of all the schools you are interested in, to get a feel for them.
