And while you are at it, might as well stop wasting electrons by asking this question. If you are not smart enough to figure out that you have a better than average chance, you should not be applying, and your teachers should be shot for giving you the grades you have.

yeah no body knows. but sometimes it’s nice to see what other people think too. clearly this girl thought she had a “better than average chance” and she still got deferred. I posted this not to have people tell me that i’ll get in for sure but to brace me for that possibility that i might not get in. call it w/e you want.

and my mom works for U of C admissions. Essays play the biggest role in their process. “Ok” essays don’t cut it.

This is what they claim publicly, though the data from the “decision” threads strongly indicates that the primary factor that determines admissions for unhooked candidates at Chicago is UNWEIGHTED class rank and strength of classes. They want you to take the tough classes AND ace them. Sub 3.8 UW GPA is the kiss of death even when coupled with a >4.5W GPA. Essays seem to be used more as a reason not to accept than as a reason to accept. My D did not make it there, she had all the stats (2250 SAT/34 ACT, 3.8 UW) and what I thought were some pretty good essays, particularly the “Why Chicago” one, but her rank was a tad over 10% unweighted. Of all people who have posted stats to date, there are at most two that have not been in the top 10% that have been admitted.

And I did not mean to “yell” at you, it is just that chances threads are pointless. :-)

Dear Bonniez90 : While the “early” information on “early action” is starting to emerge, what people are finding is the a 1350-1400 two-way SAT or 2100 three-way SAT is no “lock” for admissions. At a 1460/2240, you are above those numbers. Although we do not have enough of this year’s EA sample data, expectations are that this year’s EA will be tougher than ever!

Your AP curriculum was very interesting and very strong. In particular, I noted the Calc BC in your junior year which gave room for an AP Stats course as a senior. Also, many states see European History as a sophomore level course which is one of the tougher non-science curriculums : you will do well having this as a senior.

On the sports front, I will respect the Varsity Cheerleading in that space. Interesting to see you on the Sports Editor’s desk for the Yearbook. No music/arts are listed here.

Your volunteerism has two unique elements : research and international flavor.

Your resume is one of the stronger we have seen this “chance-me” season. Good luck and let us know the results!
