<p>This is what they claim publicly, though the data from the “decision” threads strongly indicates that the primary factor that determines admissions for unhooked candidates at Chicago is UNWEIGHTED class rank and strength of classes. They want you to take the tough classes AND ace them. Sub 3.8 UW GPA is the kiss of death even when coupled with a >4.5W GPA. Essays seem to be used more as a reason not to accept than as a reason to accept. My D did not make it there, she had all the stats (2250 SAT/34 ACT, 3.8 UW) and what I thought were some pretty good essays, particularly the “Why Chicago” one, but her rank was a tad over 10% unweighted. Of all people who have posted stats to date, there are at most two that have not been in the top 10% that have been admitted.</p>
